    Rapide S

It's a pity that Aston didn't play a smarter strategy with the Rapide. When the concept came out in 2006 it looked fresh at the time and the whole idea of a 4 door coupe would've brought them good sales, but they waited too long to put it into production all the way in 2010. by then that design looked dated. So now this facelift which they call the Rapide S is just a sad attempt to get a few more sales on the model. Yes the front looks great but the rear is a disappointment, there are Kias and Hundays out there with better rears. As a sidenote, this is how I think the front grill of all future astons should look.

Aston really needs to step up the game or the brand will fall back again.

front grill is much too vast and crass.

out of proportion to what was an elegant face.

    disaster.

Like Maserati, Aston Martin is, in my opinion, too expensive for what they deliver. I don't quite understand the strategy behind both companies and I don't really know if they actually make money with their products but I would never buy a Maserati or Aston Martin, not because they are ugly or slow but because the price/performance ratio isn't right.

    Just my humble opinion...

For under 100k EUR, I would have gone for the Vantage V12 but for the same price as a 911 Turbo, I prefer the Porsche.

    Re: Rapide S

That's the price to pay for exclusivity. In urban US, you start to see Panamera at almost every street corner...

Cars are not as performing as Porsche. But in a 55mph speed limit world, a lot of people don't care.

Also not sure about Maserati but Aston is still basically built by hand and almost every component is unique to Aston...

    Re: Rapide S

For someone who does not fully understand the mechanical inner workings or true performance of the car, but would enjoy the panache and lifestyle the brand like Aston or Maserati brings, I can see why some people are drawn to these brands to differentiate themselves from the usual sports car brands like Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini.  Besides, Aston and Maserati sounds great driving at 50 mph.

I would much prefer to own Panamera Turbo S or Ferrari FF as I am not one of the above.  Unfortunately, Lamborghini skipped on the sedan.

Why is Aston faring so badly financially? I thought they were bouncing back?

Manufacturing expensive cars in small numbers has always been a financial tight-rope walk, hence the old saying "The only way to make a small fortune by building exclusive cars is to start with a large fortune". Smiley

Their car lineup is basically unchanged since the DBS and the rapide. Performance is marginally faster, design is the same. No reason to upgrade (as in my case with the 08 Roadster). No dual clutches. Competition however is moving forward.

You can go for the One-77 if you can afford it Smiley tha would be a nice upgrade

Sorry, Christian. The new Quattroporte V8 BT has nearly the same power figures like a Panamera Turbo. A full equiped one will cost 175.000 € with RSE and so one. A fully equipped Porsche Panamera Turbo with natural leather etc. will cost nearly 180.000 €? The Aston Martin Rapide S is not on the performance level like a Porsche Panamera Turbo, but if you would by a Aston Martin only because its perfomance figures, you will buy the wrong car. An Aston Martin driver loves the understatement of the car, the exclusive mix of materials and the exklusivity, but i agree that the Rapide is in general too expensive imho.

But I cannot understand, why you would pay for an industrial product like a Porsche more than for a handbuilt car like a Aston Martin? For example a handbuilt clock costs much more than a standard clock. A clock is a clock. But a Patek Philippe is much more exclusiv than an Omega. Is it the better performing clock?

A Porsche is a Porsche and is nothing special imho. It is one of the greatest sports cars, but not longer exclusive. Sorry, you know where i am coming from and i love the Porsche marketing and the cars performance, but i am not only on racetracks.

IMO there is more to engineering a top automobile than a clock or watch. The analogy is shallow. Hand built is no longer a plus when it comes to advanced products like today's cars.

    Re: Rapide S

While the Panamera is a technological and performance marvel that I guess has no equal today on the market, I have to admit that having had the occasion to be driven in a Rapide I felt that the interior was making you feel like sitting in a Gulfstream jet such was the sense of occasion. In this respect you have the perception of being in a very unique automobile although performance wise is miles apart from a Panamera.
