Porsche Denies Preparing For F1 Foray: Porsche has denied rumors it is preparing to enter Formula One. Germany's Auto Motor und Sport reported this week that while the VW brand is open about its Le Mans return plans, sports cars may merely be "a warm-up" for F1. The magazine said Porsche is busily signing up personnel with F1 experience, including Fritz Enzinger, Alex Hitzinger, Mike Krack and recent Sauber engineer Urs Kuratle. The well-known road car brand is also establishing its Weissach facility as a state of the art motor sport factory complete with wind tunnel, while the marque's drivers are reportedly having hours booked in the industry-leading McLaren simulator. But Porsche motor sport spokesman Oliver Hilger said on Wednesday: "This is pure speculation. We have no ambitions for Formula One. Our intention is to do Le Mans and the world sports car championship; nothing has changed," he told SID news agency. Hilger also said nothing should be read into the fact that it has recently signed up staff with F1 experience. "For our sporting ambitions, we need new staff from the top of motor sport. And if you need good people, of course you have to look around also in Formula One," he insisted. - SpeedTV.com

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo said that he would be glad to see Porsche coming to F1.
"I respect Porsche very much, I consider this company as a major competitor for many of our cars. We are always open to competition, especially when yor are sure that you'll win" - citied by GMM with reference on AS.
Remind you that recently Porsche said that company is not going to take a part in F1 Championship, but,, despite on it, German press Kolner Express writes that manufacturer may return in F1 in 2016.
P.S. Montezemolo is a funny guy, good sence of humor, no doubt

Porsche RS Spyder laps Bathurst...
"Previously a dominant force in endurance races in North America during the 2006 and 2007 seasons, the iconic yellow and red Porsche RS Spyder undertook a new challenge this October: Mount Panorama, Bathurst. This 2006 American Le Mans Series LMP2-winning Porsche, the first ever RS Spyder in competition, completed demonstration laps at the world famous Bathurst track driven by Dutch sports car ace - and 2008 Le Mans class-winner in an RS Spyder - Jeroen Bleekemolen. Best known for its success in the American Le Mans Series against its more powerful LMP1 rivals, the development of the 480 hp (353 kW) RS Spyder prototype was the first new project built by Porsche exclusively for racing since its successful 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans campaign with the Porsche 911 GT1"

A little blurb came my way today that came via an attendee of the London Institute of Mechanical Engineers technical lecture series recently presented by Mr. Ulrich Baretzky. During the lecture Mr. Baretzky elaborated a bit on the relationship between Audi and Porsche and specifically about what to expect regarding the 2014 LMP season. Many believe, me included, that with Porsche's entrance Audi would bow out before the start of the 2014 season. Not so says Baretzky, and my source indicated that according to Baretzky, "Piech wants Audi to continue doing what they are doing in LMP1 with diesel technology as 70% of Audis and VWs sold are with Diesel engines. And he wants Porsche to compete in LMP1 with gasoline technology in order to show-case gasoline engine technology to the world." Yes I know, this isn't an official announcement from Audi. But you gotta think Baretzky isn't going to be making public statements as such without the approval of Volkswagen Audi Group...

Porsche Cayman to Return to Daytona with GRAND-AM in 2013...
GRAND-AM ANNOUNCES ELIGIBILITY LIST FOR NEW GX CLASS
13 Models Can Compete In Newest Rolex Series Category In 2013DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (24 October 2012) – Competitors looking to participate in GRAND-AM’s newest race category will have 10 new models from nine manufacturers to choose from, based on the list of cars eligible for the new GX class in the Rolex Sports Car Series.Earlier this year, GRAND-AM announced the new class to allow for cars and technologies currently not involved in the Rolex Series, that will debut in the 2013 Rolex 24 At Daytona.Eligible cars already announced for the class were the Lotus Evora GX, Porsche Cayman, and Mazda with the Skyactiv-D turbo diesel in a model to be determined.GRAND-AM today expanded that list to 13 models from 12 different manufacturers, adding the Audi TT, BMW 1 Series, Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus (four door), Hyundai Genesis, Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S, Nissan 370Z or Altima, and Volkswagen EOS.GX will join the Daytona Prototype and GT classes at all Rolex Series races. Rules are being developed to allow for the exploration of a wide variety of alternative technologies and alternative fuels. This could include turbocharged engines; fuels other than gasoline, such as clean diesels; and hybrid powertrains. The class will be developed with performance levels that complement the current DP and GT classes. No changes to GT performance levels are expected.

BGB MOTORSPORTS AND PORSCHE CAYMAN RETURN TO DAYTONA
- Team Press Release -ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (26 October 2012) – On the heels of a recent announcement earlier this week by GRAND-AM, BGB Motorsports announced their intention to once again field a Porsche Cayman built with the purpose of running in GRAND-AM endurance competition. While the seemingly underpowered, 3.4 liter Porsche Cayman S proved to be reliable, it didn’t compete well in GS class competition against larger powered V8 muscle from Chevy, Ford and BMW. During the 2011 season, excellent race Strategy, pit stops and Guy Cosmo were required for the little car to finish in the top-10 respectably, every single time.Fans of the mid-engine Porsche sport coupe will be able to witness the little Cayman make Porsche history and contest the prestigious 51st running of the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona for the first time ever. Most importantly though, Cayman history will be made also as the car is finally permitted to receive the only thing it ever really needed, and that’s an engine from its big brother the 911.On Tuesday GRAND-AM announced 13 models eligible to compete in their newest class, Rolex GX. Earlier this year, GRAND-AM announced the new class to allow for cars and technologies currently not involved in the Rolex Series, that will debut in the 2013 Rolex 24 At Daytona. Eligible cars already announced for the class were the Lotus Evora GX, Porsche Cayman, and Mazda with the Skyactiv-D turbo diesel in a model to be determined. GRAND-AM expanded that list to 13 models from 12 different manufacturers, adding the Audi TT, BMW 1 Series, Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus (four door), Hyundai Genesis, Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S, Nissan 370Z or Altima, and Volkswagen EOS.While the new GX class was first conceived to provide a home for newer technology that might be a bit premature for conventional GRAND-AM endurance use, it provides a home for cars that might not fit in anywhere else or might not be allowed to run anywhere else. John Tecce had more to add:“Before people start asking us if we have lost our minds, we are bringing the Cayman back because someone finally created a home for the car to race with an engine that every Porsche fan on this continent wishes it received from the factory. We want to take the trusty Direct Fuel Injection 911 GTS engine that gave us such success this year and drop it in the Cayman like we have done for half a dozen customers across the U.S. People love these cars and we have enough faith in this brand that we can build an economically priced GT car that is up to the task of running 24 hours AND driving to Starbucks afterwards at 4pm Sunday with its license plate on if it had to.”The team announced that the driver lineup will be managed by Rolex Series and Continental Tire Series regular Ryan Eversley of Winder, GA. Eversley will be joined by long-time friend and co-driver Lee Davis of John’s Creek, GA. The two have been racing together as friends and partners with an attempt to bring their clothing line to the GRAND-AM paddock; the BGB crew will be sporting the automobile racing inspired Luna-C threads while the Luna-C logo is prominently displayed on the eye-catching Porsche Cayman.Details regarding the final three drivers will be released at a later date.
...perhaps we will finally see a Cayman GT3 or RS to provide a genuine "halo" model for the range!

I read In Panorama magazine that Piech's plan is:
1. Porsche is going to focus on LMP 1
2. And that Audi is the one going to F1
Can somebody confirm this?

1. Yes.
2. There were rumors about VW willing to work with Sauber. On the other side Sauber wants to be free from Ferrari. So, possibly Audi will work on engine, because they have no own chassis facility (LMP1 chassis made by Dallara) and Sauber will work on chassis. Maybe Audi will use some Porsche resources as it was before in group B f.e.

Porsche Cayman GT3 may get own racing series..
"In the past, the Cayman wasn't allowed to outperform the more profitable 911, but this policy is about to change. Since Porsche has learned that there is virtually no overlap between the two clienteles, we are almost certainly going to see another Cayman R, and there's even talk of a GT3 variant, which could compete in its own junior racing series."-- Article by Georg Kacher (Automobile, February 2013)

That's great news, means the Cayman will get more performance versions. I'd be happy with a GTS and wishing for a GT3 version is slim... The R was just meh though so that won't cut it. I cant wait to see the Porsche LMP1. Are they testing the aero all in the computer or what? No one has seen a mule running... perhaps it's in Audi clothes for now...

I'm hoping for 918 traits actually
No connection to 918. Even styling-wise i think... Porsche lmp1 will be 100% racecar with nothing common with production. Instead of batteries they will use flywheel i think.

Surely someone has seen or has more info about the car at this point. We are just over a year from Le Mans 2014 and presumably less than a year away from seeing the new car at Sebring perhaps.
Anyone?

The car will have its roll out some time in June. They are currently putting it together.
