There is no national Thanksgiving holiday as such in France, but most Americans do celebrate the holiday at the same time as it occurs in the U.S. But wow are turkeys more expensive in France. Our last one--which weighed 14 lbs or so--cost almost $70! And we had to pick some feathers off the wings and ask the boucher to cut the head off.
The french word for turkey is "dinde" which is a derivation of "d'Inde" (from the Indies) which was coined to differentiate the American fowl from the same type of large fowl from the West Indies.

We do not officially celebrate Thanksgiving in Germany but my wife has a female friend here who is born in Texas and married to a German, so she celebrates Thanksgiving every year and we celebrate with her family. Unfortunately she is not a very good cook 
, so the turkey is OK but the gravy she makes is horrible 
but the mashed potatoes are OK too, so I get through the meal without starving. 
With the Black Friday making it to (online) shops over here, I'm pretty sure that sooner or later, people will start celebrating Thanksgiving too. 
Similar to Halloween...it started to get bigger and bigger in Germany over the past couple of years.
I actually like Thanksgiving a lot...coming together with friends and family, not bad at all.

Ahhh...Florida. Today, I worked and I also froze my butt off.
