Beautiful pictures as always, sounds like you've had a great Porsche day. It's also nice to drive the new 987 and 991 C2S, but you've picked your 997 for a reason and I bet you still like it over the newer 911 you test drove. Congrats!!

A very happy birthday to your 911, easy, the same age as our Boxster would now be - how we wish we'd kept it, neither the Cayman or even the 997/2 that replaced it feel as special. 
You've been much more sensible than us!
A great report and photos, thanks for posting. We felt the same in the very brief drive we had in the 991 at Silverstone, more like a Panamera coupe in character than a sports car . Like you were amazed by the brilliance of the new Boxster S when we drove it.
We nearly had our car serviced by Mid Sussex last month as they are situated only a couple of miles from where SWMBO 's mother lives, but Bournemouth, whose service department have always been excellent, unlike their arrogant sales dept, were over £200 cheaper. We were only loaned an Audi A3 diesel though!

@Atzporsche: yep, I still prefer what I currently drive to the 991 choices currently available. The only car that has made me feel goosebumps was a 997.2 GT3 when I enjoyed some hot laps around Porsche Leipzig with a Porsche instructor (who happened to be a former professional race driver). That car was a beast. It was alive.

@John H: thanks v much ... funnily enough, the only bits I pre-planned were the service and arranging the test drive & courtesy car. Everything else was pretty much spontaneously decided on the spot, not something I usually do! But I've been curious to try out the 991 and 981 to see what they're like ... so this was a great opportunity to do so ... enjoying a short run down to Brighton was suggested by the dealership ... they even suggested some driving routes in the nearby area too ... v nice of them.

Time passes so quickly . I remember when you were choosing your options on the car . It was around the time I joined Rennteam.
I also agree with you about the ' feeling ' in the 997 being more ' sporty' then in the 991 , making the jump to the 991 not tempting enough . Looking forward to see/try the GT3.
But.... you will need to drive your car more in 2013 , or it will end up being bored to death !!!!!

I think that the 991 is the culmination of the 911 development and the 997 especially the Gen 2 with PDK is not far behind. This is why we are not readily tempted to get to the new model.
From now on the emphasis of the 911 development will be on emissions and consumption but the dynamic attributes have been exhausted. Unless Porsche decide to change the parameters radically in which case it will be a different car.

So glad there are members here , to have their cars as keepers.
I bought mine on 3/2/2005, so it ll be celebrating my 9th birthday on 3/2/2014....
I must admit the first 2 years i did 60.000 kms and since then only 14.000 so i m at a total of 74.000..
