Why can it not have the same (or even better) character? Let's test drive it first before we judge it wink

I don't now how this little myth started, but I recently read it somewhere else as well, so someone appears to be spreading it around.
The GT2 and GT3 models were built on the same assembly lines as all the other 911 variants in Zuffenhausen.
The GT models just differ from the other 911 models in as much as the GT models were developed by the Motor Sport department in one part of the Weissach R&D facility, whilst the other 911 variants were developed by other teams also in Weissach.

    Leawood911:

Again - it will be a version of the S motor - i.e. 9A1.  It may be a better engine, newer generation all that - but the GT3 of old is dead.  That WAS a sweet motor and it is gone.  No way the 9A1 will have the same character.  Thought it may be more powerful.

We should wait and see. When I heard about Porsche abandoning the Mezger engine in the 997 Turbo facelift, I was devastated. Actually I had an argument with "somebody" at Porsche about this, I called him a tradition killer and accused him of supporting saving cost. He tried to convince me that the new engine not only saves cost but also offers more possibilities for future projects. I didn't believe him. Until I drove the 997 Turbo facelift and then the Turbo S for the first time. Wow.

Yes, I would have loved to own one of these last GT3 RS 4.0, why should I lie? Even now, I have moments when I regret passing on getting one for MSRP. Now even more since my wife doesn't really seem to "appreciate" my choice for the Panamera Turbo S, despite her persuasion to get one.

I told the very same "somebody" the same a couple of days ago and he told me something I already knew but something I always tend to forget: Porsche has a tradition of actually building a better next model lately. If I would have gone for the GT3 RS 4.0, I would have probably regretted it with the next coming 991 GT3 RS generation.

I get it: The Mezger engine has a long tradition. Maybe it is time to move on. Maybe, I need to see and drive the new models first.

We should get a few hints from the Porsche 991 GT3 Cup that will compete in the 2013 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup...

2013 Porsche 991 GT3 Cup testing at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben...

    (...turn up the volume! Smiley)

...reportedly the 2013 Porsche 991 GT3 Cup is expected to get the lighter weight and lower friction sequential transmission with paddle-shift (as developed by HÖR) from the 997 GT3 RSR and 997 GT3 R that's been running in the VLN and ALMS series...

Porsche six-speed sequential gearbox with pneumatically activated shift mechanism, active oil cooling and internal pressurized oil lubrication system:

    Paddleshift-System
    Limited slip differential 45 / 65 %
    Single-mass flywheel
Race clutch (5.5" triple-disc carbon clutch)
    Hydraulically operated release bearing
    Oil-water heat exchanger
Combined gear box, air-conditioning compressor frame
    Rear-wheel drive
    Gear ratios:
      Drop gear 25 / 32 I = 1.280
      Bevel crown wheel 09 / 26 i = 2.889
      1st gear 13 / 41 i = 3.154
      2nd gear 17 / 39 i = 2.294
      3rd gear 19 / 36 i = 1.895
      4th gear 22 / 35 i = 1.591
      5th gear 23 / 31 i = 1.348
      6th gear 25 / 29 i = 1.160

Porsche sequential six-speed gearbox is operated via paddle shifts on the steering wheel...

"Much of the know-how in the GT3 RSR’s gearbox has come from the RS Spyder sports prototype. The sequential six-speed unit, developed by Porsche engineers, is considerably lighter than its predecessor. Internal friction was substantially reduced. The flat angle of the drive shafts allows teams a wider range of suspension set-ups."

GT3 looks like a ready production version

It should be introduced early in 2013 to get to the dealers in the late spring 2013

    Am I right?

Wow, it would be awesome if the wing actually looks different from what we've seen so far.
To prepare for disappointment; is it possible that this is the same wing as we have seen before, but with the engine lid open?

Is there any chance Porsche to release the new Turbo Cab together with the coupe next spring/summer? They seem to be testing them in parallel.

I don't think so, IMHO they are too far on the outside of the headlights, also the regular tubes are still visible in the center.

Defiantly not the new turbo.. Where is the side air vents?

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

It is always difficult when we look at these spy shots, but I can faintly detect some body camoflage if you look really close on the hind quaters of the car.

I do not have anyway to zoom in on the photo from my work computer, but if you save the picture and zoom in on it you can see body camoflage on the side of the car.  Covering up some fresh air inlets perhaps??

Also with the 4 L.E.D configuration on the headlights it makes sense that it would be like the Panmera Turbo since the new 991 is so Panamera-esq already.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Definitely not the Turbo. The rear wing and front spoiler tells it is a GT3.
