NOT worth the premium IMHO. With all of the electronic nannies available on the C2 models, C4 is way overkill and not needed (unless you happen to live in snow country and are going to drive your Carrera in the snow) . I do like the look of the strip and tail lights but it does not seem that much wider. I suspect that a lot of people will buy it for the "look" but certainly not worth the premium in the 991 series IMO.

I did order a C4S because I want to drive it 11 months a year.
I expect to have each year only four weeks of snow so thick that will prevent me from driving the car.
So I didn't order the car because of the rear strip or the wider rear.
But I agree that if you drive it less a C2 or a C2S is more than you ever need.
BTW, if you only drive in summer the new Boxster S is a much better deal anyway (if you don't need to occasionally use the rear seats of the 911).

Hi!
I´m in the order process for the C4S right now ..... delivery in 02/03 -2013 .... here in southern Germany we have only occasionally some snow in winter ... so there is no need for the C4S because of its awd but I like the wider look and the feeling to have a car that is more rare than a C2 and to own a brand new car ..... call me poser but I ever stared at the 4 models while having a 997.1 ..... a C4S was a dream since years ...... a over next car is maybe a C2S model again ( or a BMW i8 ).... we´ll see ... that´s it

On the 991, I find the C4 models to look much more coherent than the C2 variants. The fender bulges on front and rear are more harmonious and in proportion. From the point of vehicle dynamics, I doubt that the extra driven axle will be of significant benefit unless you drive the car 365 days per year in all weather conditions.

that is the point here in CH - most people tend to go for a 4s even if they only need the 4wheeldrive occasionaly (ride height is still a issue when it really has snowed) - but I LOVE the wider arches and the new back - 4S is and was always a beauty. Cannot wait to see the 4Starga...

ordering my C4S @ this time.
what is your advice : do I take the 840 Sport Design Steering Wheel with the "palettes ? or the multifunction one with the buttons ? what is better ? not on the racetrack in my case, but I am a bit afraid of the glare of the chrome spokes on the sport version

No glare at all from the SD steering wheel. Go with the paddles, enhances the driving experience , you also get a stalk to navigate through all the PCM functions without taking your hands off the steering wheel. Works great.

With the stalk, I can navigate through all functions w/o taking my hands off the steering wheel faster than in the MF steering wheel of the wifes Cayenne. At first, it may be not that "Intuitive" but you get use to it very quickly. Only thing that you cant control is the stereo volume level, which is within easy reach in such a small car.

No I think this is not possible, but I have the steering wheel on my Panamera and really like that all the functions of the PCM are on the steering wheel. Even the shifting up and down works like a charm. Just ordered a Carrera 4 Cabrio for my wife and although she like the paddle shifting a lot (on my Audi R8) she toke the multifunctional one. If you are planning to go a lot on the track you could considere the sports desing wheel

Yes, you certainly can navigate through all Nav functions inc. zoom in/out. OTOH, you can always install and program via PWIS the MF later if you want, but as SFO said, If you get the MF wheel from factory, you loose the stalk and theres no way to control the PCM functions w/o taking your hands off the steering wheel if you add the SD steering w/paddles later.

I see snow on your avatar ... heated steering wheel is not available on SD steering wheel.
I like the warm steering wheel in winter very much ... gives a feel of living room ;-)
That's why I will order the standard steering wheel ...

I ordered the C4S as I drive it year round and some years it snows quite heavily here. Originally had a 997 C2S and it was a bit squirely in the snow. Then I got the C4S FL and it's great in the snow. Completion on the 991 was estimated for last Friday and I hope to get it mid next month, now that it is being officially introduced here at the LA Auto Show in ten days.
I got the MF steering wheel including heating, after some deliberation, ditto the rear windshield wiper. I got PDK (first time) plus Sports Chrono, PDCC, the Burmester, titanium silver, power sports seats, all black leather and whatever comes with the Premium Package Plus.
Can't wait.

True but there is also a benefit from the AWD when the streets are wet, not only on snow.
I don't know why so many people actually oppose AWD and people mention that race cars don't use AWD, my answer is: They don't use AWD because it has been forbidden for obvious reasons. 
Many seem to got stuck with that old AWD is too heavy/not sporty mentality in their head. Technology has changed a lot.

Also, the new 4 defaults to RWD until AWD is needed, dynamically sending power to whichever wheel(s) require it. So the only downside beyond the extra cost is the extra weight, though specified performance is the same.
Reading 'first drive' reviews of the new 4, there seems some preference for the new 4 over the 2. Evo, for example, calls it 'a touch more engaging' and scores it higher than the 2.
I had not had this input when I placed my order, but I would predict that with the 991, 4 sales will increase as a percentage, since there now seems no downside from a subjective handling POV, for RWD traditionalists.
I personally have preferred the more planted feel of the 997 4S over the 2S, not to mention the added security, so it was never a question for me. But it is nice to see the new 4 considered win-win!

Just got my 4S convertible last week. And had to drive it across the mountains 2 days ago, with icy and snowy conditions. On dry roads you don't feel a difference to the 2wd model, which is good, but I was glad I had the extra traction then. The 4 models are mor usable all year long. If you happen to live in a place with rare snow or even rain, you don't need it. Except for the look, which is superb,mespecially at night.
