Is there a logical reason for testing in SF? I guess they could test the parking brake and recreate that scene from Bullitt...
Thanks for the update :)
We have some pretty awful streets here in SF. I have basically ruined the suspension on my M5 this past year, looking to replace all bushings in the near future. Not to mention constant stop and go on steep inclines and declines, ample opportunity to test how the PDK computers/clutches handle those situations. Add to that the highly lucrative market for Porsche and it's a no brainer.

This confirms it: the next GT3 will come with the PDK.
The first button on the centre console below the shifter looks like it says "PDK Sport" so we can probably expect enhanced transmission mapping/logic for more track-oriented shifting and performance.
Looking good; won't be long before we see it.

Further evidence can be found by looking at the "GT3" tacho dial. It appears to have the shift inducator box cut out on it and printed. Why would you go to that level of detail on a mule? Its cleary a production piece along with the increased RPM limit.
What we are looking at is a PDK only 991 GT3 with a rev counter showing RPM red line over 8000 rpm (looking at the graduation markers compared to a standard 991S indicates this tacho reads to 10,000 rpm and redlines likely at around 8900 rpm).
The car also has a lovely side profile and purposeful stance. Given the newly launched C4S has an official 0-100 of 4.1 seconds (pdk) and is 65kg lighter than the outgoing model I think we can now safely assume the PDK 991 GT3 with higher revving engine will weigh 45 kg leww and 0-100 in the 3.8 second or below area....

BjoernB. I hear what you are saying but I still find it hard to believe Porsche would launch a 991 GT3 which by virtue of its standard PKF would outperform a manual 991 GT3 RS.
My personal belief is this car is set to be a game changer for Porsche on more than one level (looks, weight, handling, performance a a move to auto mated transmission). This is really only the third significant platform change in 50 years. Porsche are changing all the rules with this car.
I predict PDK in GT3 and PDK "II" in GT3 RS.
that is why it's optional - plus I am sure they will come up again with something special for the RS shaving a couple of seconds off on a the GT3 time. same with the current 4S body vs 2S body plus maybe a more extreme weight reduction by extensive use of carbon - such as on a GT2RS with the hood etc - which on my car is still alluminium etc etc
