Yeah, Frank has left a portfolio as lead designer of long forgotten models in his wake, like the X5, Mini, Ferrari F430
Kidding aside, Stephenson's problem is that the management and perhaps many current F1 owners wanted a reinterpretation of the F1's iconic styling which was of the 90's jelly bean era, which Bangle bashing aside the past 10 yrs, has gotten us used to concave or flat surfacing and sharp swoopy creasing in pretty much every car now from econobox to truck to exotic.Thank you for making my point. X5 aside, I don't find any of his work beautiful. His designs do have "presence", I suppose (in my book, that's tarring with faint praise), but I wouldn't call any of them beautiful.
Where will the F430 end up in the Pantheon of Ferrari designs? I don't believe I'm the only one to find it to be one of Ferrari's least attractive mid-engined designs (and that includes the 308 GT4 which at least has a certain simple elegance). And at the cost of annoying some members of this board, the MC12 is downright ugly, with that confused rounded front end tacked to what essentially is a Enzo-like angular design. Ditto the Mini, which does not know whether it wants to be a modern or a retro design. Oh, I forgot to start this paragraph with "IMHO".
Take away the guys' crayons, I say, and promote him to a management position.
So, you like that truck of the X5 and don't like the masterpiece that the F430 is?! I need to get myself another lager then!
