CloseBoxster competitor at 1700 kg weight? Not really.
With rising fuel prices, the V8 could be an interesting bargain...slightly used and one year old.

No one would have been able to produce a real Boxster competitor. That's why no one has tried and hence there are none around.
I think that this new Jaguar will be popular in the USA where SLs abound amongst affluent women.

I never thought Jaguar would build a low(er) priced Boxster competitor, this just isn't what Jaguar does and it just isn't what their customers expect. Maybe you are right, a Boxster competitor may have been interesting and may have attracted new (and younger) customers but for now, I think that Jaguar made the right decision.

Well, a Jaguar Boxster competitor wouldn't neccesarily have to be cheaper than a Boxster, but better equipped with about the same price would have worked IMO.
What I don't understand is that Jaguar aims against the SL with this car. I think with their XKR they already have a SL rival.

Jaguar did the X-type saloon and estate, which was in a lower price range.

Played little with German Jaguar configurator and ended at 120K € with Mwst. Too much for 495ps/300km/h roadster? I do not think so. F type is aimed at buyers of SL, AM amoung others.
Even my P source told me that F type is very capable at the Ring. They were supriesed with some times achieved by F type V8S.
Other good thing is that F type will actually replace XK. Jaguar decision to make new car smaller is a wise one IMO.

Alright, now all makes sense. I didn't know that the F-type was planned to replace the XKR, I always thought it would be an additional, smaller model.

What about the coupe version of the XK? We'll get a closed F-type or a totally different model

Let the F type be on the market for a year and you'll find used V8S with low mileage and well optioned for under 80k EUR. I'm pretty sure about it. 
Have you seen the Porsche prices lately, maybe with the exception of the Cayenne? I would never buy a brandnew 991 right now, unless I really want it specced to my liking.
Next year should be a buyer's dream come true in Europe...low used car prices, huge rebates...so if you have money to spend, wait.

F-Type Coupe will be introduced next year in Frankfurt(IAA). XK will be then slowly fased out of its production. F-Type will also get additional V8 RS model with 550ps/650Nm.
Jaguar is planning to introduce something like CLS or 6 series GT- a big four door Coupe as XK replacement. This car could be on the market in late 2014.

Jaguar seems to be having a new lease of life under Ratan Tata.
Praise to him and let's hope that in the long run he devotes the resources and sustained determination to fully resurrect this historic brand.
Ratan Tata himself is stepping down this year. He is now either 70 or 75 years old, can't remember which.
Let's hope his replacement will have an equally lucky hand in steering such a large, diverse group of companies.
