McLaren as a racing car manufacturer with no real road car history, find it difficult to follow a design path of their own. They have to experiment, as a result. Perhaps in a different colour with less contrasting black surfaces this design might look a liitle better.

Anyone knnow if the door mirrors are final? The ones on the private showing looks much better IMO
These mirrors are the biggest letdown of the whole design IMO. I had wished for those fantastic looking rear camera gadgets of the study.

The car #15 seems to have the Weissach package (see carbon roof), whilst the 03 seems to be the "normal" version. Whilst I would not choose the Weissach package liveries (if I was lucky enough to be in such a position), I do prefer the carbon roof. I think the 918 looks better without a roof, and the carbon roof seems to better "disguise" the roof line.

The new Porsche 918 Spyder has set an official lap time of 7min 14sec around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, following a series of official tests with prototypes of the advanced new petrol-electric hybrid supercar at the famed German circuit this week.

7'14, 1665kgs, 3l/100. Those numbers shoud NOT refer to the same car! How do they do it??? That's just ridiculous.
It's lap time and weight are both very close to Nissan GT-R (but price is very different)
I was hoping the 918 would be much faster - this is also only 4 sec faster than 997 GT2RS official time.

Yes very good point Grant. I always assumed that because of the high weight, it would be great to achieve a similar time than the GT2RS, but the you're right, the Japs have already proved that. God the GTR is mighty. The LFA with Nurburg pack is even quicker I think.
But hey, you can't drive over 1000 miles on a single tank with a GTR! Al Gore behind the wheel of a 918 can!
