    Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    Hello,

    The goal is to buy either a used Panamera 4S or a Turbo (with between 10.000 kms and 40'000 kms), keep it 1 year and drive 30.000kms, then sale it, buy another one, etc...

    First, is the price premium of the Turbo really worth it ?

    Which one would depreciate the most ?

    Is there a big difference in terms of fuel consumption and service cost ?

    Finally, both cars would have the 20" Turbo II wheels and must be equiped with winter tyres 5 months per year (19" are not an option). What tyres should I choose, and how good would it be on snow ?

    Thank you !

    BangoO

    Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    Turbo eats a lot of fuel if you drive at higher speeds (over 200 kph).

    Turbo is much more fun than the 4S though.

    I would go for the "alternative", the GTS.

    GTS has a much sportier chassis setup, it is at least one second faster from 0-200 kph and it sounds amazing.

    Not sure how well it sold, my dealer has two new GTS and one used in his stock.

    So there may be a good deal possible, if the GTS didn't sell too well. At least over here in Europe.

    If I had to choose between the 4S and Turbo, I would choose the Turbo.

    Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    I forgot to mention, I don't want to spend more than 100k€, otherwise I think I would take a GTS...

    I will not drive fast, lots of highways limited to 110km/h and 130km/h, and the rest will be city driving.

    Thx RC, so to your mind the price of the Turbo is worth it compared to the 4S. What about the service cost, and most importantly the depreciation of the Turbo after a year and 30.000kms compared to the 4S ?

    Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    The Turbo is at the end 20-30% dearer in all departments. Go with the 4S. The Turbo is for 130 km/h limited highways completely senseless.

    4S. It is more than fast enough for city driving and highways up to 130km/h.

    Ok so everyone seems to be in favour of the 4S...

    Now... winter driving with the 20" Turbo II wheels ? Will tyres ? Will it be any good ?

    Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    I'd say based on your needs and driving style go for the 4S. Get 19" winter tires on some rim and keep the nicer 20" Turbo II for the summer months kiss

    Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    I don't want to have an ugly looking car for 5 months, so 19" are not an option frown

    PS: oh and I meant WHICH tyres in my previous post...

    Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    Did you considered the Diesel? It is the best option for countries such as France and Spain.

    I have, but I need 4 wheels drive, and I'd like a nice exhaust note (won't buy one without sport exhaust).

    Exactely! I don't get that either, unless you live in the mountains. I drove in deep snow, uphill with my 295 Pirelli wintertires, no problem. But most of the time I drive on the highway and on cleared roads anyway.

    I agree on this one, with a few exceptions though (skiing trips for example).

    Right now I'm not even sure I will get winter wheels for my Panamera Turbo S, simply because luggage room is ridiculous and my plan to take it on family skiing trips kind of fell apart. My wife doesn't want to compromise on her luggage (which always contains of two suitcases... Smiley) and to be honest, the Cayenne Turbo Powerkit would have been the better choice for a family/fun car. Not that I don't like the Panamera Turbo S but with family, this isn't really the right car. Porsche clearly underestimated the need of luggage room in this one.

    I think this is the reason they are contemplating an additional model with a sportback/wagon body.

    Ok so you guys seem to agree that I can drive it in winter with the 20" wheels so... what winter tyres should I buy ? I just want to check the price for now and include it in the car budget...

    Thx !

    I believe this luggage room issue was brought up when you were initially considering the PTTS. You replied that you would get the fitted Porsche luggage and that it would be adaquate. Did this not suit the bill? I ask because I also bought a PTT and believe that it is sub par in this department but fortunately, don't need it the vast majority of the time. My long trips will mostly be with 2 people since the kids are grown now.

    Yes, for two persons, the Panamera is OK but with family, not so much.

    My wife actually promised to compromise on luggage when we use the Panamera but she forgot her promise very fast.  Smiley Don't get me wrong, I love the Panamera but it kind of sucks that you have a 205k car in your garage and you barely use it for longer trips. It just doesn't make sense...again. Smiley For a family of four, the Cayenne Turbo Powerkit or Turbo S (soon) would clearly have been the better choice.

    I do not want to use a roof transport system, it looks hideous and limits the top speed.

    Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    OK here's my dilemma... Both cars are sold by a french Porsche dealer with a 12 months Porsche Approved warantee.

    Panamera Turbo 09/09 40.000kms with all the goodies I want -> 99.500€

    Panamera 4S 06/10 20.000kms with all the goodies I want -> 96.500€

    All the goodies means Bose, Sport Exhaust, Pack Sport Chrono, 20" Turbo II, Adaptive Suspension, etc...

    What do you think ?

    Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    I would go for the PT!

    A friend of mine who owned a P4S switched last year to the PTS and allthough he lives in a very-speed-limited country (Austria) he would never switch back to the "normal" Panamera....

    Since he took over delivery of the Panamera he sold his Ferrari 458 and he even barely uses his 997.2 Turbo S as he gets (almost) the same performance with the stealth-looks of a limousine ;-)

    He loves his Turbo (S) and regarding the specs of the mentioned cars you shoul'nt hesitate to long.

    Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    You know you want the Turbo.

    Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    Argh indecision

    What do you think of the price of this Turbo though ?

    Any know issues with MY09 ?

    Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    Anyone ? frown

    Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    BangoO:

    No major issues. PDK software has been updated, also the engine software (your dealer can do that before delivery, if he finds a reason for...or maybe it has been done already). The Panamera Turbo V8 engine is not a completely new engine, it is well known from the 955, so no serious issues here.

    40000 km? Not much...if the car has been treated right (warmed up engine, no chip tuning). The Porsche warranty is worth gold too.

    Thx RC !

    In terms of price, what do you think of the 2 offers I've given earlier ? (both are very well equipped, the Turbo is 160.000€ new)

    Panamera Turbo 09/09 40.000kms with all the goodies I want -> 99.500€

    Panamera 4S 06/10 20.000kms with all the goodies I want -> 96.500€

    I think the Turbo's price is OK, it's 4S at french Porsche dealers that I find very expensive...

    Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

    Once a turbo always a turbo...........the power is immense and you cannot compare the shear joy with the non turbo cars (at any speed), yes it uses a bit more fuel but worth it IMO. Go for the turbo!
