there;s something not quite right about it....
over-styled?
Absolutely agree, I think it's totally overstyled.Looks hideous to me, at least from these spy pics.
I agree, at least from these pictures, the proportions are all wrong to me combined with too bussy design elements clumped together... for example the front end looks huge and tall from the side, kind of like a SUV's front end side profile, the rear bumber is way to short, almost like a hatchback and rises upwards from the rear wheel at a very high angle, then there is way to many creases and lines running all over the place, the head and rear lights are huge for that size car, and the wheels look oversized for the small width they have...

That is a seriously ugly car. What is with the vents on the rear bumper??? The headlights and taillights look awful as well. In related news I finally saw the new SL in person, I expected it too look much better than the pictures, I was very wrong.
What is Mercedes thinking with the headlight design of these cars? Strange that the new CLS can look so good while the SL and CLA are utterly hideous.

At first glance I thought BMW 3 series, but with some Hyundai mixed in, but that gives it far too much credit. It's just a very unbalanced, awkward design in so many ways. Mercedes seems to have lost their design focus.
Das ist kein Mercedes
European premium brands like Mercedes, must have a timeless design language with clean shapes which should be modernized with every generation but OTOH keep its basic elements.
Mercedes design is becoming disoriented, unnecessarily busy and their more recent cars resemble europeanized versions of Korean brands. In this way they think they will attract younger buyers!
Why M-B management cannot see some simple things?

I think the F12 is stunning... F458 is so-so, still very nice. The new Enzo will tell their design DNA
As for this CLA.. so many on here liked the new A, this is the same design language..... I quite like it despite FWD platform.
However, honestly in this segment i'd go for the upcoming A3 4-door sedan, it's just stunning!

The A3 sedan is sure to be a stunner if it sticks to the concept we saw not so long ago, and that looked very production ready in its styling. The new A has the same front as this CLA which looks good, to me the problem is at the rear.

The new design trend in cars indicates clearly where the money exists nowadays. There is little european class and almost absence of classical elegance in many recent shapes. Only Audi have been unaffected (so far). Porsche? The Cayenne is suspect of catching the oriental virus. I hope this doesn't afflict the sportscars too.
