    SUBARU BRZ, Toyota GT86, Scion FRS

    So no Thread on what appears to be the most exciting sports car of 2012: The Subaru BRZ!!!!

    It's a new development by Subaru with cooperation of Toyota (in design) and features pure driver oriented design principles. Simple but fun 2.0L Boxer engine, RWD, great chassis and suspension, and nice features to keep the weight simple. All this for $25,000 USD or so.

    Some pics of the Scion. The models have slightly different bumpers and trim, but the Subaru is the real deal kiss

    I agree and I have looked with great interest that car since I saw it at the Geneva Motor show in march.

    This is the best affordable fun/sports car that has come out in a very, very long time kiss

    I bet it will become ' THE' car to have for the young crowd or those looking to have a fun cheap toy !!

    I'm just waiting for our local dealer to get an allotment of the BRZ, and then I'm going to take one for a ride. Not considering a purchase at all - the car isn't super practical, and I'm pretty sure my Forester is faster - I just want to see what all the fuss is about. There's some great driving roads around here, so depending on how far they let me take it, hopefully I'll be able to give a good report.

    Saw the Toyota/Scion version on I-95 the other day.

    Dimensionally, the car is surprisingly small. If anyone remembers the last generation Celica sold here in the US, it's actually a tad smaller than this.

    I'm iffy about the styling. Not in love with it - but don't hate it either. From a pricing perspective, I think they have hit a sweet spot. The Nissan Z, which has owned this category, has grown to be far too expensive - coming in at nearly $35K once nicely optioned here in America. The Miata is still seen as a chick car and is in dire need of a refresh. The Mini has waned somewhat now that it's suffering from model bloat and the BMW 1-series / Audi TT doesn't get interesting until you get the M Sport / Sportline packages and by then you're dancing in the $40K range.

    Way ahead of everyone.  My 17 year old needs a new car when her 3 year Corolla lease runs out in a few weeks.  She is the one who has been watching for this car since first announced.  We have already been at the Scion dealer pricing them.  Subaru is not to her likeing - fine with me since it cost a bit more but does have standard Nav and nicer trim levels to pick from.  She is a driver and will pick the manual.  Yesterday we practiced in my 6speed manual Sonata.

    She can trade in the Corolla lease early and get the Scion version for about $270 per month on another three year lease.  No money down.

    Smiley That's a great deal. You're not the only one, Subaru announced a price adjustment to match the Scion pricing since it outsold the BRZ by a big margin.. I'd ask and check with the Subaru dealer, but the Scion is essentially exactly the same car. She will love it, great deal.
