C63 BS -- Pair at MB World, Surrey

    At Brooklands today:

Also GTS SLS stripped of interior parts .. you can see the explosives for blowing the gull wing doors off:

Re: C63 BS -- Pair at MB World, Surrey

My neighbor owns a BS and we had our first comparison run last weekend.

His car has slightly over 3000 km, mine has over 5000 km.

Acceleration has been done from 60 to 150 kph and from 100 kph to 200 kph. Each time, the cars were practically side by side, none was able to drive away. In the upper 200 kph range (200 to 270 kph or so), my car even gained almost half a car length each time we tried. Weird. He wasn't pleased.

So it seems to be true, there isn't much performance difference between the PP and BS models. angry

On the other hand, I really started to like how the BS looks, my neighbor has the version without a rear wing and the rear spoiler lip is in the car's color, so it looks better than the carbon lip on my C63 AMG Coupe PP.

Overall, I don't regret going for the much cheaper C63 AMG Coupe PP but I have to admit that the BS looks amazing.
Engine/exhaust sound is identical on both cars, another disappointment for my neighbor.

I think the driver makes the difference, even in the straight line smiley

The one with the lip spoiler looks very good indeed. The wing is from a teenager's tuned Honda. However, it should make a difference at over 200 km/h.

For comparison, we both used S+ mode and sport handling mode turned on. So there wasn't not much of a chance of driver error or whatever. Smiley

    I feel flattered though... Smiley

You know, a split second of hesitation on the throttle can make a huge difference in distance travelled.

I think I would have noticed. Smiley We did several runs and he was quite  frustrated (I didn't expect a huge difference, 30 horses more aren't much but there basically was no difference and in the higher speed range... Smiley).

Btw: BS and PP models have the same engine hardware, there is no difference at all. Not a single part, not even a screw. Smiley

Re: C63 BS -- Pair at MB World, Surrey

very interesting comparisons re:BS and C63 PPP ...

BS has wider tracks and bigger brakes, plus also lighter so 'should' be quicker round a track ..

your neighbour must be deeply unimpressed!

Am amazed that the engine/exhaust sounds the same too ..

The track pack car is hideous with the nasty after market looking rear spolier and the ridiculous extra chins on the front bumper.

I love the wheels on the BS though.

Re: C63 BS -- Pair at MB World, Surrey

We haven't tried anything close to a track, just straight line.

I really like how the BS looks, only the large wing isn't my thing.

Re: C63 BS -- Pair at MB World, Surrey

Perhaps your engine is better broken in. With more miles the BS engine should loosen up. On top of that the actual run in plays a role. Engines that are driven harder, perform better.

This is why I mentioned the km status on both cars. We will try again after both cars pass 10000 km but according to a german car magazine, the results seem to be OK. From 0-200 kph, there was only a 0.2 seconds difference between the two cars (in favor of the BS model). Not much. I guess the wider track on the rear and the wider rear tires and maybe different aerodynamics (more downforce?) could be held responsible too.

    Still...the BS looks really nice.

Avoid using the BS initialism, it could be misunderstood indecision

Yes, I thought Mercedes pulled some marketing bullshit Smiley

Great comparison, didn't know the C63 BS had equal hardware settings to the C63 PP! Very interesting. But while the BS looks really amazing, I think going with the PP is definitely the better choice. Plus, you can always change those exterior accessories to your liking as well. Ie. paint the CF spoiler lip in ext. color.

...and both cars turned the AC on/off?

    jesse:

Nope, always on...on both cars. We also both had a full fuel tank.

The wider track with the wider rear wheels and the bigger downforce probably eat up the 30 horses (on paper) difference.
