Best looking Porsche at the moment!
Not difficult though

From our all too brief drive of the whole Porsche range at Silverstone I'd say that not only is the latest Boxster the best looking car that Porsche makes it is currently their best car as well

Come on guys let's be realistic. It's only a Boxster, the poor man's (or girl's) Porsche

One dealer offered to double my discount % and order a man's 3.4 991 for me for around 2K more than my 981, I wouldn't bite and went for the girl's Porsche. What really surprised me though was when he said how disappointed he was when the 991 arrived and looked like a 2 door Panamera. This coming from someone whose job it is to sell them!
sfo, I still haven't seen a White/Carrera Red 981 in the metal, only photos, but I saw a base 981 last week that was Platinum Silver/Carrera Red and it was killer and looked like a 100K car. Bet you get many compliments.

Happy girl Porsche owner here. After owning 11 other Porsches with six of them being 911's, I doubt I'll go back to another 911. The feel of the 981, which I've now had for about a week, is EXACTLY how I want a sports car to handle. None of my 911's including my 997S came close, sorry to say. Could be that the 991 is equal or better, but who cares when for so much less you can get a car that drives like this.

Congratulations! You are not the first one saying this.
Porsche nailed it with the new 981.

Welcome to Rennteam.
Exactly my impression when I first drove the latest Boxster. And I drive a 997. Even compared to the latest 991, which i drove back to back, it is a revelation. Porsche have got some real hard work to do if the 991 is to excel in the same way the 981 Boxster does.

Wait until you get one on a mountain road without the salesman in the car. WOW!

The allure of the 911 is exactly that it is different to mid engined sportscars in terms of handling, traction, noise, internal space etc. This is what makes it unique. People, are generally more confident to go fast in a mid engined car due its easier corner entry and more balanced handling, until they have a spin that is due to the rotational inertia of this configuration especially in the rain.
Which one is better? Although I cannot dismiss the Boxster, I can say that those happy with what the 911 has to offer will not look elsewhere. If I were a mid engined car fan, I think that I would go straight to a new generation R8 S-tronic instead of bothering with the suppressed Boxster models.

That's an endorsement Welcome to Rennteam, Clutchplate - enjoy your new Porsche All these enthusiastic reports from new 981 owners drive me crazy - still 3 weeks to go.... @ Reginos: the "supressed" Boxster still has no problem to scare R8 drivers at the Nordschleife - ask me how I know

In the 997's defence though it is much more relaxed on a long drive than a Boxster (a 987 anyway, I've only had the briefest experience in 991 or 981). This week is the first chance we've had to take our 997 on a really long trip, from our home to Dover, ferry to Calais then through France, Belgium and the Netherlands to Elmpt in Germany, close to Roermond on the German - Netherlands border Much easier to pack with more room and more versatile storage with the folding rear seats. The rear engined car feels more mature somehow than the Boxster / Cayman of the same generation.
Our brief drive in 991 left the impression that it had strayed too far from sports car towards luxury GT, more in character to a Panamera coupe than replacement to the 997, which is why 981 left us so amazed in comparison.
