    New Porsche 911 GT3 to get 450bhp...

Hardcore version of the latest Porsche 911 gets a power hike to 450bhp and sheds 40kg compared with its predecessor; set to be unveiled next March...

Porsche is stepping up development of its all-new 911 GT3, the most focused version of the ‘991’ generation of the iconic sports car yet. The new model is set to be unveiled at the 2013 Geneva motor show next March and the order books will open soon after that.

The new GT3 looks set to be powered by the latest evolution of Porsche’s motorsport-derived normally aspirated 3.8-litre flat six, rather than adopting the larger 4.0-litre powerplant used in the 997-generation GT3 RS 4.0.

Porsche insiders have hinted that the power output will be in the region of 450bhp in the new GT3 — some 15bhp more than in the outgoing model. That should translate to a 0-62mph time of less than 4.0sec and a top speed approaching 200mph.

The new GT3 is likely to have just the one transmission option: a PDK seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic. The lack of a manual option in the GT3 is sure to cause controversy among 911 purists, especially after the 911 switched to electric steering. The PDK transmission is also heavier than the manual, something at odds with the GT3’s lightweight approach.

Nevertheless, insiders claim that about 40kg has been shed from the GT3 compared with its immediate predecessor, which had a kerb weight of 1395kg.

Although the choice of gearbox is heavier, Porsche has shaved off weight in the new GT3 by increasing the use of lightweight materials for the bodywork. Interior trim and equipment levels will also be reduced compared with standard 991 models and the rear seats will be deleted.

Visually, the GT3 will be easy to distinguish from the base Carrera and Carrera S models. The spy pictures reveal that the GT3’s bodywork has been totally overhauled compared with the standard models.

At the front, a new splitter has been added, as has a new, more sculpted front bumper. Wider air ducts also feature at the front of the car to improve cooling to the more powerful rear-mounted engine. There is an extra air intake between the bonnet and the top of the front bumper, too.

Wider sills and flared wheel arches also feature. Housed within the arches are larger, 20-inch alloy wheels, which
are centre locking.

The most distinctive element of the rear is a large, fixed wing. The rear bumper has been reprofiled and twin rear exhausts sit in the car’s centre.

    Insiders have confirmed
that the even more hardcore
GT3 RS will return in 991 guise, but not before 2015. Its power is said to be about 480bhp.

Before the 911 GT3 is revealed, Porsche will launch all-wheel-drive versions of
the Carrera and Carrera S.
The Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S are expected to be revealed in both coupé and cabriolet guises at the Paris motor
show in September.

Doesn't seem all that exciting from the description and specs (and photos).  Maybe there will be some surprises and maybe the driving experience will be better than I fear with electric steering and PDK (and a hot-rod version of the 9A1).

Then the GT3 will be widebody for the first time which is interesting.

    Porsche 991 Turbo spy pictures...

    (8 August 2012)

"Our spies have spotted the most powerful version of the new Porsche 911 testing ahead of its debut next year.

The longer, lighter body of the new generation 911 has been given the Turbo treatment, and these pictures show that the performance flagship will bolster the standard car’s svelte looks with massive wheel arches, bigger alloy wheels and a larger, speed-activated ‘whale tail’ rear wing.

The front end features larger brake ducts, while you can’t miss the massive engine intakes just behind the 911’s doors. These will send air through to the rear-mounted 520bhp 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat six engine, which should send the coupe from 0-62mph in around 3.3 seconds and on to a top speed of more than 194mph.

The intakes are integrated with the chunkier side skirts, and will feed into a heavier-set rear end. Along with the bigger wing, there’s a more aggressive rear bumper with two large exhausts - although previous prototypes have used a quad-exhaust arrangement.

The Porsche 911 Turbo is due to go on sale in 2013, and is expected to cost around £120,000."

Tail-pipes are not oval enough to be GT2, but you are right, they will not be the final ones. They don't fit the cut-outs in the rear bumper at all.

Any truth to the rumor Porsche will enter a  factory development 991 RSR in the WEC next year?  Customer team cars and Factory support will begin in 2014.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Hmm as I see it (fear it) right now is that the 991 GT3 will turn somewhat into a GT-R type car. I refuse to accept it will only come in PDK form as it is both less fun and heavier!!!! It's so counter revolutionary and very concerning, especially after the electric steering thing and now more weight.. what is next? AWD enlightened Let's hope i'm wrong!

In fact I wondering of ordering a 991 targa 4 light blue (personalised color) with a cream/light grey leather. what do you think about this choice of color

The blue would be an old light blue, i ll try to post a pic of it

Here, this is the blue I want :  http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f5/Citroen_C3_Exclusive.JPG

    Thanks for you comments

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

That looks like 'gulf blue', a popular exclusive colour:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=gulf+blue+porsche&hl=en&safe=off&prmd=imvns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=8GMtUIi7CozJrQe9yIBg&ved=0CEkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=971

I've always fantasized that colour myself, or perhaps 'Mexico blue' or 'Riviera blue', both a bit darker. I always thought it's a shame that solid red and yellow are always standard colours but there is never a standard solid blue. There must be some psychological thing that makes solid blue colour seem weird to people.

I like that blue .. it would work with agate grey/pebble grey (really quite white)

Here's a rendering someone did of a Targa a while back before the 991 came out. Sort of like the combo you're going for (blue/beige).
