Yes, I remember reading that when you posted it - looks lovely in Blue - I had mine done by AutoFinesse - it was OK, but I wasn't massively impressed by his work. I'm working alot from home over the olympics (can't you tell!) so maybe I'll arrange something with a mobile company to undertake a proper "going over" as you put it. Then see how I feel about it. After all, there's nothing wrong with it, it's only covered 28,000 and it has all the options I need except PDK. (wasn't available in 2005!)
If you are happy with your car my advice to you is keep it. Which is what we should have done with our Cobalt Boxster S, same vintage as your 997. We changed it for a Cayman S, the main reason was to get the PDK 'box and it was the most expensive car mistake I've ever made. SWMBO doesn't like manual 'box, so the idea was get the Cayman, which she could use daily, get rid of her shopping trolley and solve the winter garage queen problem. We ended up getting anther shopping trolley when there was nothing wrong with the one we had pre-Cayman and then the following year get rid of the Cayman, which she hated, for the 997. So all that expense later we've got another garage queen.
I assume your 997 is manual, if you want to improve the driving dynamics retrofit the short shifter. It's a huge improvement. Combine it with the aluminium and leather gear knob and handbrake. You won't regret it.
