Porsche 911 Turbo Convoy Hot-Weather Testing...

Work never stops for automotive journalists – you never know when you’re going to run into a story, or a test mule. Our photographer Brian Vance, for example, was on vacation in Nevada when he saw a convoy of eight 991-series Porsche 911 Turbo coupes.
These Georgia-plated (location of Porsche’s North American HQ) 911 Turbo mules were likely heading to Death Valley for some hot-weather testing. Despite the masked front-end and faux-997 taillights, these mules are clearly 991-series Turbo models. The giveaways include the prominent rear wing, flared wheel arches, the new front splitter, and the gaping air intakes just forward of the rear wheels.
Rumor has it that the all-wheel-drive 911 Turbo may be powered by a tri-turbo F-6 of unknown displacement, producing more than 530 hp, the output of the previous-generation 911 Turbo S. Porsche’s seven-speed dual-clutch PDK automatic will most certainly be offered, while the new seven-speed manual transmission is likely. The 991-series 911 Turbo should debut late this year, as a 2014 model.
