    Today I collect my M3 CSL

    Today, I woke up 3hrs early, I guess everyone here knows that feeling, because today is CSL collection-day! Smiley

    I'm so excited, collecting at 12 o'clock, and heading straight to the Nordschleife with it, I can't wait. I hope to share some pictures here by the end of the week-end.

    Wish I had the time to drop by at the 'Ring tomorrow, but my weekends are packed...

    Congrats, fantastic car. I have mine since 2006 and it never missed a beat and provided me with huge fun. Nothing beats the sound from the air box!

    I like the 3 series M cars and the CSL in particular is more special. Is it faster than the contemporary  Porsche GT3?

    It has quite a lot of modifications actually, here's the list:

    -Supersprint stepped headers
    -Supersprint mettalic Cats
    -Supersprint mid section
    -Supersprint back box
    -Schrik 280/288 cams and Schrik rocker arms fitted
    -Bilstein Pss10 suspension
    -Wiechers half cage
    -mapped @ 384bhp/411Nm
    -AP-racing 6-pot front/4-pot rear
    -OMP-Corsica steering wheel

    Of those modifications I think the AP-racings are most welcome, I've experienced the OEM-brakes on an E46 M3 and they're completely inadequate on track imo. Smiley

    It was a tie on the Nordschleife, but if I recall correctly, the CSL wore Michelin Cup-tyres, while the GT3 didn't. I assume under similar circumstances the 996 GT3 mk.I is a quicker albeit more difficult car.

    It is indeed a problem for the annual inspection, that's why I didn't register the car in CH. In Belgium it's a little easier to pass the inspections with modifications.

    Thanks John, I've just tried to record the sound in the tunnels on my way home, but the iphone mic doesn't seem to be a match for the airbox. Smiley

    I'll look for another solution, as the roar is indeed worth sharing.

    I've moved since they'd appointed a gay-socialist prime minister in Belgium. Smiley

    On the Nordschleife, the CSL is still a very quick car, almost as quick as the 997GT3 MKI, the CSL is much more confidence inspiring and easier to catch when it lets go. It also benefits from the "real" Cup tires whereas the MKI GT3 has the Cup N1 which offer less dry grip but are much better in the wet.

    On a GP circuit like Spa or Hockenheim the GT3 walks away due to its superior power and traction. The GT3 is much more challenging to drive. 

    At the end of the day I love both cars, it's a thing of personal taste. Currently I prefer the GT3 as a new challenge, my CSL is kept completely standard as a collectors item and can be seen at the new Black Falcon premises in Meuspath.
