Guys, if Porsche is introducing PDK ith the 997 tt in 2008 (that would already be september 2007 if thats just modelyear 2008!) it would make all TIP buyers who like performance plain stupid! 
Cant believe they do it, I still believe we will see PDK on a GT3 first...

Well, I'm afraid it will be exactly the other way around...not Tip drivers...manual drivers. Because there won't be much real life performance gain from the PDK, as much as people seem to be hoping for.
It is really funny to see how people still think that Porsche can introduce a world premiere regarding turbo charger technology and they can't be able of offering a Tiptronic which blows away your mind. Let me give you again the hint: networked systems.

Remember, automatic gearboxes were banned from F1 in the mid-90's because they were too efficient!
The fact that boats like Crown Victorias indeed have slushboxes does not have to mean a Porsche cannot. After all, they've got four tyres, and I'm lucky Porsche have too.

They made the new turbo automatic and they are going to make the new 997 GT3 RS (you know like the previous, with the HUGE wing the roll bar, the racing seats with the racing belts and a Extemely Agreesive look ) SLOWER that the 997tt (with a very big difference).
So i will buy lets say the more "strange and sport" in appearance car (GT3 RS) and suddenly for one more time a guy who lets say is not as good driver as i am but that he will drive the new AUTOMATIC 997TT will make fun of me in the red light! or in 0-1000m. (i dont have to tell you what will happen if he will have changed an ECU and an Exhaust..
Do you find this logical ?!

The GT3 is not supposed to be a stoplight drag racer. It's meant for a curvy racetrack where it is much more entertaining to drive (and likely faster) than the 997TT with any transmission you like.
It also seems to be about the same speed as the turbo in acceleration in a straight line from the numbers I've seen, but that's not its goal.
Many people on this board seem to rely on numbers to judge a performance car. I think that's a mistake. For me, I want to have a car that is incredibly fun to drive, responsive, challenging (so I don't get bored and can keep learning to drive better) and with which I can form a bond (man and machine). The GT3 is better at this (for me).

Most modern sport cars are design to suit the mass market. It's actually quite sad that even the mk2 996 GT3 doesn't have the same character as a 993 RS. It's too easy to drive fast and less rewarding.
Most likely the 997 GT3 will be more refined, faster and overall a much better car. But I won't consider it as a true sport car.

Well, at least the 997GT3(RS) finally broke the record for power per liter for normally aspirated flat-6 in a Porsche street car that was set in 1973 (RSR Touring was street legal). That car had 2.8L and 308hp. Not even the GT3 Mk2 was that good, but the 997GT3 is better.
Of course, the 73RSR still had a better power/weight ratio (weighed under 2,200 lbs), so let's hope the 997GT3RS loses enough weight to better that too (2,950 lbs with 415hp would tie).
Just trying to see the bright side
I think the new GT3(RS) will be a very nice car and I look forward to driving one

I'm curious then . . . what 05/06 car would you consider a true sportscar?

I'm curious too. Fully adjustable suspension, downforce, racing engine and gearbox, no cost clubsport package, 380mm PCCB, 10kg seats, unique wheels, aluminium doors, no navigation, no phone,no rear seats, factory support if you want to race???
I'm sure it won't have the same character as a 993 RS. But it will have a lot of character for a car that meets all of the road car regs around the world including the latest safety and emissions regs. And I'm struggling to think of any car from a major manufacturer which is as sporty at that price. And I'm sure that it will be a challenge for most of us to drive it (really) fast....
For me its a true sports car and the only car in the range (CGT excepted) which is. For me it has the purity that the others lack.
I'm sure it won't have the same character as a 993 RS. I saw today some new photos of GT3 RS. But the car is exactly the same with the regular Gt3 but it has a wide body.... Really nice pictures though... The rollbars are SO wild...

So it's a widebody (not much heavier) offset by various lightened parts and PASM? It can't have much more than 415ps because the engine's already at 115ps/litre-unless we have a new engine and that doesn't make sense. It will have PCCB, carbon seats, options from the normal GT3 and what else??? The long awaited DSG I suppose will be the main thing.
So do I wait?? Or finally put the deposit on the normal GT3 with PCCB, seats and so-on totalling Pounds93,000!!!!!
I'd hate to buy a normal GT3 with the (essential) options only to find out I should have bought the RS. Better wait a couple of weeks and see what we have announced on the RS. I hear we're expecting some news on it quite soon.

I will wait for the GT3 RS...
CF told us that the car base price will be 110.000 without the tax.
It will be widebody and have 4 more unique colors..
same engine and hp but less weight.
CF maybe know more...
I hope though to see the new Dsg (PDK) in 997RS as an option.. It is a shame this car to be manual...
