    PSE 3.6 Owners Please Comment

    Fellow Boarders,

I've ordered a 3.6 with PSE and PASM but no sport chrono. Do I end up with a PASM switch AND an exhaust switch? Also, does the PSE sound significantly different than the stock 3.6 exhaust? My dealer has never heard one in a 3.6 997 and cannot offer any advice.

    Thanks! Jerry

i own a 3.6 997 and ordered the PSE since january but still back ordrered unfortunately... But concerning your car, although you don't have Sport Chrono Plus install (which I personally believe u should have ordered it.. i love it..) u'll have tha same button intalled in ur car.. i.e identical "sport" buttons that those with SCP. Concerning the sound, I have seen a regular c2 with PSE and let me tell u THERE is a Big difference !!!! So...... Enjoyyyyy!!!!

Re: PSE 3.6 Owners Please Comment

I have Sport Chrono so this is second-hand info.

From a Rennlist post by TNunnery :
If you have Sports Chrono option, the PSE is activated by the Sport switch. If you don't have Sport Chrono, the switch to activate the PSE is below. It's the third button from the left below the AC controls and looks like a pair of goggles or a brassiere . (Thanks to Aerosmith for the pic!)

Re: PSE 3.6 Owners Please Comment

Is it possible to add sport chrono after taking delivery of the vehicle?

Unfortunately I don't believe so. At least I have not heard of anyone successfully adding SC. The electronics involved in SC are integrated into too many vehicle systems to retrofit. I'll bet that board contributor Trundle could offer more detailed information on this.

Re: PSE 3.6 Owners Please Comment

I have PSE in a 3.6, installed by dealer without the switch (I have sport chrono and PASM from factory.) I believe you would end up with a separate exhaust switch, located next to the PASM switch. The sound is very different from the stock and I love it. It is aggressive on acceleration, but unobtrusive at cruise, which is why I elected not to install the switch. My dogs love it too, as they can always identify when I am coming home.

The button is supposed to represent a pair of twin exhausts, although I really prefer your description.

hi flat6er , i have the same config ; 3,6 PASM and PSE, you will have two switch (like on the pict) and...a beautiful sound ! (and an horrible "cut off" between 50/80 km/h... but that"s an other story!)

HI YOU LL GET a switch as mentioned by other members,

the sound is exactly like the 3.8 with PSE.
The PSE additionaly can be burned-in according to your driving style

If the sound is exactly like the Carrera S with the PSE - I will order one to be retrofitted to my car. Here in Japan the PSE is about USD 3,000 - how much is it in other parts of the world?

Re: PSE 3.6 Owners Please Comment

PSE in America cost around 2400 USD + installation

UK ranges between 1500-2200GBP (incl fitting and VAT) from what I've seen. I've managed to force my OPC to go with just over 1500 as I knew exactly how much it SHOULD cost given parts and labor. So if you are going to get a retro-fit I suggest you do your homework first and save a few 100!

    1. Go to the online Porsche Car Configurator for your country
    2. Look up how much the PSE cost as an option on there - this is your parts price
    3. Establish how many TU (time units, 100=1hr) the labor will take. Porsche official install document states:
-> No Sports Button already present = 440TU (they fit a new console button)
-> Sport Button already present = 330TU (no need for a new button so takes less time)
    4. Find out your local OPC's hourly rate
    5. Add everything together for your total

If they try to argue I will forward you on the Porsche official PSE install doc which you can use as leverage

Re: PSE 3.6 Owners Please Comment

NOTE: When one car has already sports chrono, THEN the PSE installation ost is a little higher...dont know exactly why, but more cables involved....
