This year I'm swapping my annual pilgrimage to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for a journey to the Le Mans 24h race.
The idea is to experience the whole atmosphere so we're heading there on Thursday afternoon, together with the great British flock of supercars. On Friday we'll enjoy the campsite (Blue Nord) and Mad Friday, Saturday and Sunday it's racetime obviously.
Anyone else here going or experienced in going to the 24h of LM? I'm looking forward to it immensely!
I was at Le Mans in 1999 (the year the Mercs decided that flying down and off the Mulsanne was preferable to actually staying on the race track). I will be attending again in 2014 (Porsche's return to LMP1 at Le Mans).
It is a fantastic experience, and I am sure that you will enjoy yourself immensely.!
I'll never forget that year! I was 14 and a big supporter of the CLR Mercedes' (even today I still think they look fantastic), I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the closed garages in the Mercedes pit boxes when I turned the TV on after a small break...
I'm afraid the battle in LMP1 will never be as fierce as it was in those days, but I'm hoping for some action in the GT classes.
Here is the video from that event:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFN_Gp1eHN0
LMP1 is going to be a walk in the park for Audi.
The GT class should be good, but unfortunately the 2012 Porsche seems to be as far off the pace as last years car. Lets see if they can squeeze some more performance from the car.
2013 will see Porsche with a factory team getting ready for their 2014 return. Possibly in the 918 RSR (pure speculation).
