HI SFO
car looks fantastic in the white with red, glad I went for full leather - although I've gone with the yachting blue, even the standard 19" Alloys look great and I'm glad to see the coloured crests fit as I still have mine in the garage to go on my car if it ever appears. The painted roll bars also set the car look off well so i'm pleased I specified those as well
Enjoy

Yes it will be nice to see my car as well - has spent 22 days not moving at the factory but finally got to Emden on the 5th June - hopefully made it onto a boat over the weekend and maybe will be able to pick it up this weekend.
I'm not holding my breath as it was originally supposed to be Early May then late May and then early June delivery - have asked what compensation might be forthcoming, especially as I had the first customer build slot at dealer

done 260 miles already, and have really enjoyed it. marvellous thing.
main gripes are:
1. there is no way to show fuel consumption as part of the standard vehicle display
2. the passenger seat belt buckle bangs on the plastic and rattles on rough roads. on the 987's sport seats, it was possible to have the seat belt buckle brought to the seat by the loop .. no leather loop on 981 sport seats. a real c*ck up IMO.
also the area where the seat belt buckle bangs against on the 987 is carpet (and hence quiet), and on the 981 is plastic, so lots of noise.

sfo:981 and Spyder together (Spyder is noticeably lower):
You have PASM in your 981? That makes a 10mm difference, since the Spyder has it as standard, I suppose?
Interesting that the 981 looks so much wider... it is wider, but the light arrangement and overall design enhances the wider look.

no PASM on my 981, no PASM on Spyder either. But Spyder has sports suspension with 20mm drop.
Spyder is not my car, it's a mate's, who also has a Cayman R :)

Beautiful car sfo, thanks very much for sharing the pics! I've been trying to get through the final few decisions on a 981S spec that should be Sept. delivery, also a manual.
what's your spec? what are you unsure about?
Guess the big questions are does the 981S manual really need sport chrono and has the standard exhaust note improved to the point that it's close to the old 987S PSE? If it has I think I'll be happy without PSE. I'm also leaning towards no sport chrono.
Will try to start a new topic later today with the current spec. Still admiring your stunning combo and now wondering about Dark Blue/Luxor.

It's not about getting there as fast as you can, it's about getting there while really enjoying the ride ...I agree PDK is awesome (drove the 991S with PDK etc), but it's too digital for me.
And I don't have a beard!
PDK is digital ? Are you still using an analogue walkman or an iPod ?
Congrats on not having a beard (this is kind of weird you mention it ) but hey, I don't have a beard either, at least not in my face.
Yes, PDK is digital. You shift with your fingers.

personally don't see the need for SC on a manual box .. no launch control (pointless anyway), and dynamic transmission mounts are a gimmick as engine is in between the axles. The gearbox is behind the rear axle, and is 30kgs lighter than PDK. no reason for it.
981 exhaust is way more vocal than 987. On cold start up, it makes a lovely loud throaty sound for about 20 seconds, then settles. I had PSE on my RS60 Spyder, but not 981. 981 is slightly quieter than 987 PSE on, but not by much. 981 non PSE is an honest, mechanical, vocal and refined guttural sound .. IMO, it doesn't need amplication and adornment of PSE. It's a very different and a much more precise mechanical sound, compared to the more heavy rock/metal sound of the 987 Gen I PSE. I much prefer the 981 sound, and the DFi engine leagues ahead of the non DFi 987 engine.
Thanks sfo, excellent information. I feel confident I'm making the right choice and wont miss these 2 options. Never missed sport chrono on my 987S manual and thought throttle response was excellent. Also great to read more about the sound quality of your 981. Trying my best to show a little spec-discipline and keep my car from entering 991 price territory.

me too ..
only thing I didn't add which I would now add is climate control. the standard a/c seems to require constant adjustment. in fact, I think there's a fault .. even when set to no heat, it still seems to throw out warm (warmer than ambient) air.

surprisingly the body shape of the Spyder doesnt look superceded at all next to the 981.
but when u put a 987.2 next to a 981.......
kinda regret never owning a Spyder.
i think you are right on that one - the Spyder will be one of the few collectable Porsches
imo the 997 doesn't hold up as well against the 991 -

To continue about "badly misaligned" body parts on the new Boxster. Today I saw 981 in flesh for the first time, and I must say - it is very beautiful Boxster!
But I noticed that the tail lights are misaligned.....I'm not sure about it,but I let you guys judge.......
