I think the red reflector strip looks silly on (and adds no real purpose to ) a 997, and it would probably be the same on a 991.

I got used to the look of the red stripe at a 997.

I guess the main reason for Porsche to continue this stripe also at the 991 is because it is THE distinctive feature between RWD and AWD. Smiley

It would be a good idea if the front bumper air intakes were different between the AWD and RWD. And/or the louvres on the engine lid. Remember the visual differentiation between the 993  S and 993 4S. It was very successful.

Carrera/S and Carrera 4/S need to be more different IMO.

it is never too wide :)  About the targa i am a little bit sceptic, but let's wait for the final product

The Targa is gonna be so awesome! And there is no doubt a red reflector under that tape. I hope this makes Porsche run out of room for all those badges!

That's a nice variation, very clean and subtle- wonder if it going to mark all the 2013 cars to make them "new" again.

I like the reflectors moved inboard to over the exhaust pipes. Also,  hope the side blades fit my car- they would be a neat match for the spoiler lip on the front.

Unfortunately, those "over the exhaust" reflectors are exclusive to every other country in the world besides the United States. Due to stupid rear impact regulations, we're stuck with the awkward license plate area, and ugly, obtrusive reflectors on the edges of the bumper.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

I have in on good authority that there will be an anouncement in early fall concernig the 2013 911GT3 RSR. The exact quote is " it is safe to assume that it will not be based on the 997 chassis or drive train".

So.....991 GT3 will serve as a homologation car.

Damn!  So thats what it is.  Thanks.

What I really want is a GT3 style center dual outlets and a center outlet sport muffler- but the GT3 bumper cap is likely to be too wide.

    Oh well.

    Wow,

at first the camouflage tricked me. I hadn't seen any picture of the 991 targa undisguised yet. Judging by the little amount of camouflage, the debut of the AWD models must be near. Very curious how the targa will turn out and whether the middle segment has to be stored away manually. Any info on that?

    Hi!

Why the targa system is mounted on a cab and not on a coupe?

That doesn´t make sense at all ..... except the targa system is close to cab system and some parts of the roof will be hidden under the top .....

Seems I was wrong and the camo does hide a reflector strip... :-(
IMO, the last reflector strip that looked good was the 996 C4S. But then again, the whole 996 C4S was a stunning car to look at, with the turbo bumpers and the widebody. That was back in te days before they started with a carrera and a carrera S...

Anyway, I am really looking forward to the Targa, looks really good. If they find a way to stow the roof section under the rear glass panel or so, that would be such a nice feature!

It's cool in a Retro way, but I have to confess that I always thought the original Targa really spoiled the lines of the 911 Coupe (losing that great curved rear side window is a shame).

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Pure speculation on my part but perhaps the glass rear window pivots through 90 deg like a clam shell, the flaps in the targa roll hoop open out and the targa top pivots through 180 deg like the flip top on the Ferrari Superamerica then the rear window closes back down over it. It would mean the targa roof covered the rear seats as a sort of inverted parcel shelf (unless they've found an ingenious way to fold it up as it pivots backwards).

Here is a simple sketch of what I mean minus the required pivot arms.

    Mechanism.JPG

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Looking at it more closely, if the rear deck cover uses the same lifting mechanism as the cabrio it would allow the rear window to lift back and out farther. If the targa mechanism inside the roll hoop uses a double pivot point then the targa roof section should be able to stow cleanly away behind the rear seats using the same area the cabrio's roof folds into. The forward portion of the cabrio's roof is a solid panel that should effectively be the same as the targa panel after all.

    Mechanism 2.JPG

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

The rear "glass" may also stow/fold way like the rear part of the cab roof?
    Or
If the part behind the rollbar remains connected to the cab decklid, and the roof sections stows away horizontally?
In imitation to ISUK, I made som quick sketches

LeftlaneNews got it all wrong btw; the badge on the rear will say "targa 4(S)", not just "targa" smiley

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Judging by the graphics, there are not back seat passengers??

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Hmmm ISUK you are on the something... but for the rear glass to flip 90 degrees it needs to be very solid or even surrounded by a metal frame of some sort..

The 997 Targa was also based on the Cabriolet model. Standard practice at Porsche one could assume.

This is my first auto transmission- and I have to tell you PDK is almost magical. The 991 has power and long gears so its hard to understand what PDK can do on the street- unless you shift it yourself, and then its ... still magical.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Great pics - thanks! First time I really like the GT3 wing. Might be the angle also. Will look awesome on the finished product!

That GT3 is definetly wide-body and also have the red stripe covered. Maybe it's the RS or will they change the standard GT3 to be widebody and go with a different approach compared to the 997

Still think the wheels look bigger than 20", but I might be foold by the images. The brake discs looks to be quite a bit bigger than 991 C2S brakes. Maybe the tyre profile is lower? 25 in the back??

That is a bit of strong statement when the car hasn't even release yet...  have u driven 991PDK? it certainly would fall very far away from the term "suck" as compared with Manual.  I see you kept complaining about 991PDK, but how much time have u spent to get ur hands on this piece of artwork which Porsche spent days to develop?   I am very positive about GT3PDK! Time has to move on! we have to keep up with Porsche's development! Smiley
