    Romain Dumas - 911GT3R - Pikes Peak

Romain Dumas will take on Pikes Peak on July 8th, 2012.

I though you all might enjoy see a picture of his car:

Are they competing for an overall win? How do you assess their chances?

Re: Romain Dumas - 911GT3R - Pikes Peak

They are competing in the "open" class. The winner usually comes from the "unlimited" class.

I think they will be going for the "open" class record which is currently at : 11:21.58.

Re: Romain Dumas - 911GT3R - Pikes Peak

His Facebook page features a few clips from the shakedown and testing. As you can see from the above picture, they have made quite some modifications to the car.

I really like the idea. devil

    The car looks great!

Nice air scoop in the rear side window...maybe for some dustfree engine-air...

Re: Romain Dumas - 911GT3R - Pikes Peak

Dumas posted the second-fastest time on this year´s event, only being beaten by Rhys Millen by 0.017 seconds over a course of 20 km. Second place, being at the event the very first time in a privately-organized GT3 R.

    Well done!

BTW, Haribo is currently putting a big pile of money into their motorsports activities!

Re: Romain Dumas - 911GT3R - Pikes Peak

A fantastic effort from Dumas. A real shame he did'nt take it. He lost quite a bit of time (in relation Millen) in the first section. He will be back.

Frankly a bit unfair to him too, RD went much earlier with terrible conditions especially at the top where he had hail!!!

They waited for the American to go later to make sure he would benefit from better weather conditions.

    I would be gutted.

For me, RD is the best french pilot in existence today, period. So complete, brilliant.

Not that it changes much, but Millen is New Zealander really, not American.

I absolutely agree Futch! Dumas is very quick and very safe.

Re: Romain Dumas - 911GT3R - Pikes Peak

Not only is he quick and safe, he seems to be very versatile, too. Just as Bernhard, he seems to enjoy rallying just as much as racing.

Bernhard, I think, the best Porsche factory driver and one of the best drivers today. Remember well his great pace behind rs spyder wheel when he was battling with R10 in ALMS 2007 and 2008.

I guess some of you have more insight about their particular laptimes but Bernhard and Dumas seem to be pretty equal in terms of speed. Would love to know if there is any further background information about their individual strenghts.

And of course you´re right, Loeb must be the prime example of versatility among current drivers.

Re: Romain Dumas - 911GT3R - Pikes Peak

On their best days, Dumas is quicker than Bernhard. Both are absolutely fantastic. If they weren’t, they would not be Porsche factory drivers.

Maybe Dumas on peak is faster, but Bernhard is more stable, almost no mistakes and very high pace level for a long time;) maybe I am wrong, but remembered this from rs spyder career. Anyway Dumas/Bernhard in one team - unbeatable;)

We must mot forget that these guys won LM for Audi in 2010, together with Mike "Rocky" Rockenfeller, another Porsche driver and FIA GT class champion.

2012 Pikes Peak with Porsche 911 GT3 R driven by Romain Dumas -- Full Video...

In his first participation in the famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, Romain Dumas finished second overall with a time of 9min46sec181 ! The Porsche driver came close to overall spoils, even as he battled rain and hail in the final portion of the course, to finish only seventeenth thousandths of a second behind the winner. Behind the wheel of his Porsche 911 GT3 R, Romain Dumas takes the Pikes Peak Open class win. A fine reward for his first "Race to the Clouds"...
