It is interesting to see how little attention this thread is getting given the GT3 is the most exciting 991 that will be released.

Re: PDK in the next 991 GT3?

    Great thread guys.

I agree there is so little 991 GT3 information available. Usually by now people have started to speculate on the retail price of the new car and what options it will have etc.

Keep up the good work as there is alot of local knowledge on this European site and I believe that any important information on the new 991 GT3 which we all wish to hear will be posted here first!

Re: PDK in the next 991 GT3?

After driving a 991 C2S PDK with PSE in Sport Plus mode using the paddles, I can say that this is closer to Ferraris F1 box in terms of enhancing the driving experience. I like manual but I could get used to this setup - not having to take your hands off the wheel and the noise on downshift is incredible. One can only imagine how good this box will be in the GT3... And how much faster than the 3.8 RS the GT3 will be...

Really looking forward to the GT3!

Re: PDK in the next 991 GT3?

Yes. Im speculating if PDK is the only option offered in the GT3 then the base price will be 112,000 Euro + tax in Germany. That is a 14% increase over the 2010 GT3 MSRP of 98100 Euro + tax to take into account the revised (for GT3) paddle shift PDK (4000 Euro) and a premium that the 991 variant seems to command over the out going 997 series. There will be a 4000 GBP upcharge for RHD variants including UK delivery as per usual I suspect to go on top of that (as per previous generations). A/C will be standard and I suspect there will be more options available for interior enhancement than on previous GT3 iterations but that the most popular option will be PCM2 with Chrono plus. Seat options will likely prove to be the next most popular upgrade (sport bucket seats folding?).

Looking at the most recent data available (991S ring time of 7.40 with road tyres and PDK) my money is on a Ring time of 7.28-7.30 (similar or better than outgoing GT3RS) and a 0-100 of 3.8 seconds assuming PDK as stock transmission.

I believe there will be improvements to the steering rack ratio and feedback of the electric steering gear and improved shift performance and operation with the PDK over the standard 991S. The car will sit lower on wider rubber and newer tyre technology.

The car will likely launch Geneva Auto Salon but there could be a surprise at Paris motor Show (long shot). Either way this will be a heavily subscribed vehicle. Expect 455 bhp.

I think the 991 GT3/RS will be a big game changer for Porsche and bring performance into line with other exotic manufacturers latest offering but at much better value for $$$.....

These are my opinions and speculation from reading the web and asking various sources.

Re: PDK in the next 991 GT3?

All reasonable speculations, except the steering changes: I am not at all certain Porsche or a majority of 991 buyers think there is a problem there.  Apart from some journos, my impression has been that in the end, the new steering is accepted as different, but not worse, than 997 and previous.

Re: PDK in the next 991 GT3?

On the matter of the electronic power steering, I've read an interview with Manfred Harrer, Head of Vehicle Dynamics.

He said that the motivation for the EPS was not the small gains in fuel economy but to be fit for future systems like stop-start on the move, hybrids, and support functions like split braking and heading control (the latter I don't know??).

He also said that the Porsche system additionally takes account of grip levels whereas competitors' systems only use information relating to steering input and speed of the car.

On my test drive the new system was totally satisfactory. It seems to be equally good on the Nordschleife too.

definitely the case in the Alps last week on fast and uneven windy roads .. the s/w provides plenty of feedback

Re: PDK in the next 991 GT3?

I like the new wing/spoiler more than the "racer" one on the 997. But the 997 rear bumper cap styling would be better on the 991 than what is shown. I think it really pulls the back of the car together in a classy way that would pick up the horizontal ridge over the 991 taillights.  This is the first GT3 that I am tempted by (if it can get in and out of my driveway).

Re: PDK in the next 991 GT3?

The front bumper + spoiler looks final product. The rear is still fully camoflauged and will look more like the 997 version when unveiled. Given this level of camoflaugue it would occur to me we could be seeing a launch in 10 days time in Paris? Porsche will need something as McLaren are there and everyone has something sexy to talk about.

My money is still on the following config.

PDK, 1360kg, 455 bhp, 7.28-7.30 Ring time, 0-60 in 3.8 sec and top speed 320 kmph.

So one of the three in those last pics is a standard Carrera? Wonder if they are testing against a power kit Carrera to see how much better the GT3 is...

This is the first 911 I have ever really wanted.

But that "standard Carrera" has the same exhaust pipes as the GT3, so as KresoF1 said, that's probably just a standard base line test platform for the GT3 engine to better gauge what improvements need to be made to the basic chassis.

Re: PDK in the next 991 GT3?

Dont loose your faith in Porsche. They have never made a "bad" RS or GT3 and they arent about to now. If they are using the 9A1 engine then it will have significant internal modifications and will become the basis for the 2014 CUP cars. The PDF will likely have software to suit the clutch and engine characteristics of this car. The hydrauyllic steering may have small changes. If they offer PDK then they should not offer manual. Porsche have to advance the breed and also play catch up with some competitors. Offering the manual box will undermine this strategy. These are my thoughts...
