    " surprising downgrade" 997.2 4s - 991 base

Sold my white 997.2 4s cab fully loaded for a white 991 Luxor beige, brown top base cab. Car is nicely equipped with PDK, premium package, 20 inch sport wheel, Bose, but no PASM, PSE, Sportchrono, all of which my previous 997.2 had. But guess what, this car is so much better than my previous loaded car. The car feels so much more agile, close to mid engine, exhaust note sounds better even without PSE. The engine likes to revv, I don't miss PASM at all, the ride quality is almost on a Panamera level. This is surprisingly the best 911 I ever had. And the new roof line makes the cab the most beautiful 911 IMHO , I am in cloud 7. Smiley

The 991 is such a step foward over its predecesor that less is still more like dreamcar said. Congrats! wink

    "..... much more agile."

I´m in the decision-making process between base or S ...... if you tell me that the power and agility of the 991 base is nearly the same as 997 S .... I´ll save a lot of money .... because I do not need more power than a 997 S. I had a 997.1 base cab before my X6 and was nearly happy with the power there.

Just be careful with the switch from AWD to 2WD. The traction on the 991 Carrera is amazingly good but the rear will break out at a point and it will be much worse than on your previous 997 C4S, especially when PSM is turned off . It is a pity that you didn't order a custom tailored car, Sport Chrono is a must with each Porsche but I can see why you were tempted, so enjoy in good health. Smiley

Can sport chrono be retrofitted on 991 like it can be on the 997? You don't get the dash top wart with the retrofit but that's of dubious benefit IMO.

     997S was 350hp

    991 C2 is 350hp and about 40 kgs lighter ..

    Re: " surprising downgrade" 997.2 4s - 991 base

Is there a difference between the  "Sport button on" position vs. "Sport position on" with Sportchrono? If not, I don't see why I need Sportchrono, since in my last car  I rarely used the sport plus position. Plus, I don't track the car.

BTW, this car is a temporary car until I know if I want a 4 model.  Unless the 4 model totally wows me ( noticeable  wider in the rear, new front fascia, maybe even more power?), I will stick with rear wheel drive. It is so much more fun to drive than my previous 4s. Smiley

    Re: " surprising downgrade" 997.2 4s - 991 base

Sport Chrono worth having as it includes dynamic engine mounts

    +1 Smiley

That is why I went from a 997.1 4S to a 997.2 S as well. It is so much more fun to drive.

There is clearly a penalty on slippery roads when accelerating under full power. The 4S never lost traction when accelerating in 1st gear on a wet road (it is amazing how it gets the power down), while the S does. Not really an issue, just need to be prepared.

Interestingly I find the S easier to drive on very bad road conditions (e.g. snow and ice) since only the rear wheels spin. The 4S felt very nervous on snow when all four wheels lost traction and the car started sliding sideways.

Congrats to the new car! Smiley

I wouldn't think the 4 will be more powerful than the 2 (both non-S models)..?

But what it seems you need (2WD, but wider rear, sportier look, more power) is a GTS...  RC has indicated that the 991 GTS won't be left until the end of the series, but will instead slot into the range between the S and GT3 as standard.  Perhaps it will be that 50th anniversary surprise..?!

Congrats on the upgrade.  How did the resale market or dealer trade in go on the old 997.2?  Just curious how much of a hit people are experiencing in the swap.

997.2 Cabs are actually selling quite well, I sold mine for 75 K $ to the dealer, pristine condition, low milage
