    ISUK:

the switch to 901 involved a significant revision of the volumetric shapes from the 356 but the lineage is still clearly recognizable which is the point I was making. It wasn't Porsche's "Miura" moment where the design was radically revised. That came the following decade with the 924 and 928 models but it was the stubborness of the core Porsche buyers of the 90's that saw the newer design consigned to history whilst the 911 marched on. It's therefore understable to see why Porsche are now so reluctant to move away from their core styling signatures hence why the Macan will not offer a radical styling departure in the way that the Lamborghini Urus does in the SUV sector. It is simply too great a risk at this point in the company's model development plan.

We all need to remember that whilst some long time enthusiasts of the brand may crave something different in terms of styling, most of the buyers of the Macan will be new to Porsche and will be looking for a car that resolutely carries a traditional Porsche look.

It´s funny since the Miura came to my mind as well when looking for a revolutionary product. What we can see so far is a car that is very traditional in its proportion but as I´ve said above, the given platform will not enable Porsche to make outrageous changes. This is simply not possible. The initial response on the Panamera might have contributed to a rather conservative layout as well.

Nonetheless they are able to transfer their core elements on every existing product so far, the headlight bulges in the front fender, the graphics of the DLOs (windows frames), the way the greenhouse sits on the fenders, all of these elements are continuously visible on all current models.

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

This is a much more flattering picture.  I hope the roof profile does not slope rearward too drastically, which would be out of proportion with the rising front fenders.  The Evoque and Infiniti SUV suffer from this design error, making the rear of the cars appear small and "squatty"...

I'm hoping they won't look as bulky and ungainly as those of the current Cayenne.

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

No. Kind of a mix between the 991 lights and the Audi Q5/Cayenne lights, it is difficult to explain.

Stunning? Yes. Good looking? Well... enlightened

The whole design is way too "busy", too "nervous", this isn't Porsche, this could be Ferrari maybe...or just Toyota.

We all have our personal tastes, but I don't understand whats busy about this. It has the 918 front and doors/sides. 918 front lights. 991 cabin and 997 turbo wheels. No Toyota nor Ferrari parts what-so-ever. yes

Putting it into the dimensions of the Panamera doors - it would be enought for a 6.5 ft Person.... thats enough Smiley

I get it. You don't want a Porsche but a Toyota or Ferrari. Smiley

On a more serious note: The Macan is supposed to replace in a way or another the Cayenne in many parts of the world. In Germany for example, larger SUVs don't have much of a future if fuel prices go up further and if the economic crisis will hit Germany too. Don't forget that the decision for the Macan has been taken a couple of years ago.

The Cayenne may get a more "here I come" progressive design with the next generation because it will probably sell better in China and the US or other parts of the world but the Macan will hit the Cayenne hard, especially in Europe. Look what the Q5 did to the Q7, just saying. Porsche just can't afford to offer a more special or "here I come" look on the Macan because it is supposed to satisfy European customers and mainly those who want to drive a Porsche but don't want to "shout it out loud", if you get my point. The design will be fresh but not as aggressive or progressive as some of the design photoshop jobs we've seen so far.

Like this one for example (not going to happen):

    cajun1.jpg

As to a Panamera Coupe, I would prefer this design variant:

    928-de-2013.1.jpg

Of course with improved and less bulky frontlights but you get my point. This is a much cleaner design.

I thought so, too until Ive seen that new rendering on top. Compare the front part, the side lines - that new draw is so much more inspiring! The front looks also very much 918 - great concept IMO!

    dxpetrov:

    Hope it's true.

We said last year that no baby Boxster is coming but it is also true that some Porsche employees kind of send out mixed messages in some interviews with car magazines.

As to the Pajun: First, the next Panamera generation needs to be introduced. Then, Porsche will decide, based on economical/environmental/marketing circumstances, if and when the Pajun will come. The initial planning has already started as far as I heard but Porsche works on many different projects, so it can be said if it will get the green light for production or not.

The Macan was a logical consequence to the criticism regarding the Cayenne and the fact that people, especially in Europe, seem to favor smaller SUVs for various reasons.

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

So in order to hit the 2018 sales objective of around 200K units, the unit sales portfolio should look something like this:

    Sales 198,000
    911 34,000
    Boxster/ Cayman 18,000
    Cayenne 58,000
    Panamera 30,000
    McCann 58,000

A little ambitious as the above assumes that the sales levels for the Cayenne will remain constant despite the introduction of the McCann.

If there is a fall in Cayenne sales and the McCann sales do not compensate for that loss, then we may see a new model introduction to make up the shortfall.

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

The Cayenne sells very very well, even people who don't really like SUVs seem to like the new Cayenne.

So why would Porsche change the design of the Macan, the "smaller" Cayenne? The Macan is basically a Cayenne mini with a twist, less weight, less interior but especially less luggage room and less powerful engines for less money. It will sell like crazy over here...

Re: "Cajun" is now...MACAN Thread Closed

Not especially. The first Generation Cayenne was weird. The new one is a very big improvement.

I just feel that one SUV for a company that still claims to be a sportscar company is enough.indecision
