    China has overtaken the USA...Porsche

For the very first time, China is Porsche's number one market...pushing the USA from the throne.

Porsche sold over 400 cars more in China than in the USA in the first three months of 2012.

Best selling (world wide) Porsche model is the Cayenne, followed by the Panamera.

Even with the new 911 available, Porsche wasn't able to sell more 911 than Panamera.

Interesting: Porsche will announce nine (9) further new models this year. Which leaves a lot of room for speculations. Smiley

    Carrera 4

    Carrera 4S

    Cayman

    Cayman S

    Macan

    Macan S

    Macan Turbo

Still room for two more models... Smiley

Re: China has overtaken the USA...Porsche

This are very interesting news. New Models might also be a stronger Diesel engine for Cayenne / Panameras as the current lacks on power compared to the competition.

I dont think we will seen the Macan in Turbo version from beginning on, but maybe a Diesel instead.

Also - there is room for Hybrids in the 911, as well as Targa or GT3 Versions?

Re: China has overtaken the USA...Porsche

Sorry, I forgot the Macan Diesel...so only one more model.
Maybe a more powerful Cayenne or Panamera Diesel? Smiley

991 GT3 should be due next year...same with Turbo.

I don't get a good feeling about these news, we used to complain someties how the importance of the US market sometimes influenced the 911 or other Porsche's to satisfy the idiosyncracies of this market, but the idea of the chineese customers influence the design and fearures of our Porsches???enlightened

You should worry. Since streets in China are getting better and better, especially in the wealthier regions, the 911 started to sell better too. So it will definitely influence the 911 development in the future in a way or another.

why would designing the 911 to cater for the Chinese market be a bad thing?

chinese folks smaller than western ones, so at least 911 won't need to get any bigger :)

I didn't say it is a bad thing. I just said we should worry.

may push it to make it bigger, more bling bling details, etc in general ore emphasis on appearance and status and less emphasis on handling, etc.

Well it explains the P O R S C H E lettering on the back of the new 991. Having lived in Asia it's very obvious Chinese people love to show off brands.

I have a feeling the 991 Turbo is going to be bling bling.

HAHA... you are right. Just had yesterday a new 911 Convertible ahead of me, the lettering was insane "PORSCHE 911 Carrera S" (even dont know if all of them say 911.... but that one did and it was a Porsche factory car!).

yes, but not nearly as much, at least when it comes to cars.

Re: China has overtaken the USA...Porsche

I was troubled by the "Black Edition" lettering on the Boxster S convertible top, and on the door sills.

Then there is the case of the new BMW 3 series. They have the three lines, Sport Line, Modern Line, and Luxury Line. And for some reason, they feel the need to remind you of which one you are stepping into, by spelling it on the door sills...

We should coin a new term for moronic bling.

Crotcheted seat covers and fragrance trees soon will become standard in our Porsches - I can see big business for the Exclusive department with PSTSFT (Porsche smell to sample fragrance tree)  and CSCExT (crotcheted seat covers in exterior colour)  Smiley

Maybe Boxsters and Caymans will be less affected as the wealthy Chinese never go for entry level models Smiley

Re: China has overtaken the USA...Porsche

Hi RC.  Here is the exact quote from the Porsche press release.  It is a bit confusing, as the nine new models seem to include only 911 derivatives and the Cayenne GTS.  "This year, Porsche will be bringing a further nine models to market – from new derivatives of the new 911 to the especially sporty Cayenne GTS."

Further on in the release, Porsche mentions the "all new Boxster" and the "new Cayman" for 2012.

So if you count the Cayenne GTS, the "new Boxster", the "new Cayman", then that leaves six new models.  My guess is there will be the 991 Carrera 4, 4S, and its two Cabriolet derivatives, and the 991 GT3.

Re: China has overtaken the USA...Porsche

4S only comes in December as per my source yes
