Panamera GTS with PDDC: Need or Nice to have?

I  am thinking of trading in my Pana 4s for a GTS. Car will be GT silver, black grey interior. Car has already all the nice extras on board, just pondering if I should get PDDC? My mission is daily driver, city, freeway, some spirited driving, but obviously no tracking the car.  What do you think?Smiley

So why do you exchange your 4S for a GTS? The difference won't be as huge as some press releases may suggest.

If you choose to switch to the GTS, go for all performance enhancing goodies you can get. Otherwise, save your money, stick with the 4S and wait for the facelift in 2013.

Porsche NA Is offering an early lease pull out program, you can return your car 6 months before lease end without penalty and get into  a new car. The question is indeed should I wait for the facelift or get the GTS.  I like the prospect of a more special sporty  GTS  but the fl could produce a better looking Panamera. Really not sure what to doSmiley

Anyhow Christian and RT members for your adviseSmiley

Re: Panamera GTS with PDDC: Need or Nice to have?

I would wait for the FL no doubt. Look at the difference of the previous Gen Cayenne how much a FL can change the looks of the car.

Re: Panamera GTS with PDDC: Need or Nice to have?

The real life performance gain from a 4S to a GTS is minimal, even if the GTS may be in fact the sportier model, especially regarding the chassis. However if one needs to ask if PDCC, a major performance enhancing option, is necessary, I don't know if switching from a 4S to a GTS really makes sense.

I would not hesitate a second to recommend the GTS over the 4S if someone wants to make a new car buying decision, the GTS is clearly the much better deal than the 4S and I have to admit that I don't get it why some people are still opting for the 4S instead because you can order this car in any color and ride comfort is really not much different but you get all those performance enhancing goodies which make the GTS more fun to drive.

Switching from a 4S to the GTS is a different story though. If you can have the lease deal for a one year lease duration only and/or if you can switch to the facelift as soon as it comes out (there are certain lease contracts which may allow that, depending on the region you live in), I would do it. Otherwise, you are going to end up with an "old" car in very likely one year from now. The only reason I couldn't wait with my switch to the PTS was the lease contract I had and the fact that I need to get rid of the Carrera GTS Cab because it just sits around and eats money. I also have been told that the facelift will not include the Turbo S from day one and that the power bump of the regular Turbo will be 20 hp or so at max, not really the performance enhancement I was hoping for. Of course the next generation Turbo S is expected to have 570 hp minimum but I couldn't wait another 18-24 months. Impossible.

I would only switch from the 4S to the GTS if the deal is so good that you can't pass on it. Unless of course you don't care and you just want to have the latest tech and style. Then, wait for the facelift.

Professional advice is one reason I love Rennteam. Thank you RC and Rennteamers. I might up deciding for the FL. One  year leases in the US are to my knowledge are expensive  if at all available.Smiley

This week I have a Panamera GTS, mine Panamera Turbo will get some service work. My first impression of the car is very good! The PDK works in my opinion better in the GTS then in a Turbo. The sound of the sport exhaust is superb. I will keep you informed the next days. I feel a huge difference between the Panamera S and the GTS. I find it more sporty then Turbo.

PDK and the chassis, incl. PTM, have been improved on the Panamera since the car was introduced in 2009. Try a 2012 Turbo and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Re: Panamera GTS with PDDC: Need or Nice to have?

I did drove a 2011 turbo and didn´t feel any difference to my 2010 turbo. Maybe in 2012 there is a difference.

The main problem with turbos and PDK is the turbo lag. Which is small but still present. The PDK works much better with na cars. Overall the car is nice and maybe this is the most sporty Panamera. What I didn´t like was the carbon interior but this has nothing to do with the GTS.

The consumption is about 12-13 liter in city compared to my turbo 15-16 liter in city. The next day I will drive to Zürich so I will check the autobahn performance.

Re: Panamera GTS with PDDC: Need or Nice to have?

Have you tried a Panamera Turbo S? The "titan" turbo chargers have reduced turbo lag substantially, you can barely feel it and usually only in PDK auto mode. Using sport chrono plus also improves throttle response and kind of covers the turbo lag but the setup has been changed for 2012 cars as far as I heard.

No doubt, the GTS is a fine piece of product, I actually think that it is the overall best (performance/price tag ratio) Panamera model available. If Porsche would have made a GTS with 500 horses, I would have been tempted. I am not willing to sacrifice Autobahn performance for a better throttle response and/or a slightly better handling.

The next Panamera Turbo generation should be interesting... (2015).

Re: Panamera GTS with PDDC: Need or Nice to have?

Next Panamera is very interesting :) :)

I think the GTS with 450 hp would be the perfect Panamera, also I am a big turbo boost fan. The throttle response in Sport or Sport plus modus is in mine turbo (2010) is perfect or nearly perfect. Sometime the comfort modus makes me mad, when you sail in e.g. 4th gear and decide you want to accelerate (moderate) then the programmed fuzzy logic isn´t sure what to do: should I switch two gears down or only one - has he pressed only a little bit more the throttle  - thinking thinking -- in the meanwhile time goes and I have pressed the throttle more and then the logic has understood - ahhh yes the driver wants to accelerate.

But with the 2012 software it should be better - that is what they promised me. When driving in sport mode everything is fine.
