Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

I agree with nBerry - YEAH!

For a DIY like me it looks like I will need to buy a lift for my garage - which I have been looking forward to.

The horrible part to me is the number of SNAP and fasten connections for the body and other plastic parts.  It made me nervous just to watch him snap the car apart.  Those types of connections fail after half a dozen times or so - right after warranty runs out, lol.  Causes a lot of rattles to snap a car together like that as well.  It never goes together tight!  I can see the whole rear blowing off at 187mph if one of those fasteners fails.

I just replaced the airfilter on my 997.1 - not a bad job at all.  Interestingly the 997.2 is even simpler and very quick to change.  Looks like they went the other directions.

On the bright side, once you have all that stuff off (which they did make simple to do)  you have excellent access for all types of other repairs. - belts, AC, alternator, etc.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Quite a few more options have appears on various nationalities configuration sites today.

    The new options include :

    • Black Painted Wheels : now available on Sports Techno Wheels
    • Sports Bucket Seats
    • Electric glass slide/tilt sunroof (We have a whole new thread on this)
    • Aerokit Cup
    • SportDesign package
    • SportDesign front apron

Sports Bucket Seats (£2258) look very interesting to me - especially as they seem to be £200 cheaper than the Adaptive Sports Seats Plus (£2460) - (based on UK Configurator prices.  From memory I think they are about £300 more expensive on the 997???

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

sports bucket seats look like the ones from the 997

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Interesting seats if you fit. Porsche should follow Ferrari's example and offer the seats in three widths.

Agreed - fit-all is not possible with these seats... I know, I tried them!!  Smiley

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

I solved the Sports Bucket seat fit issue on our Cayman R. My other half is quite small and the non height adjustable seats were too low for her. Solution - a Sparco seat base support cushion for under £30. She now sits at the perfect height and loves the seats. I find the seat doesn't give me lower back support so makes longer journeys uncomfortable. Solution - a Sparco Universal Backrest cushion for £20. With this in place I've driven the car for over 4 hours without any issues. Had these items been Porsche branded they'd have cost 4 times as much no doubt indecision

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

A new option is now available on the Porsche Car Configurator for the 991: Electric Glass slide/tilt sunroof Smiley

It's not a true "panoramic" roof, just painted black with the sliding section in glass.

The non-glass areas of the roof will be in Black Aluminum

BTW, we have an extra thread about this new 991-option. Smiley

So is this basically a "glass-sunroof-and-black-roof-paint" option..?!

Hmm - I assume that the remainer of the roof is black glass isnt it, rather than being black painted metal? A subtle but significant difference...

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Can anyone confirm whether there is any truth in rumor that the 4s will have an extra 50 hp !!!!

    surely this is highly unlikely.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

    Only when compared to 3.4L Carrera 2/4 (350hp vs 400hp - same as 2S)...

Is the expensive  PDCC on a 991 worth the cost? Not really according to the Autocar magazine.

"adverse affect on the fluid, predictable limit handling of the 991" - that says it all.  Same problem I have with electronic steering, PASM - Traction control (PSM) and sometimes Anti lock brakes (not so much - since they can save your bacon.)

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

My guess is that feature will be part of the GT3 spec (and not something one can opt away from).

Quite a few track drivers have complained of accidents caused by (not prevented) by ABS, when the system enters "Ice Mode" and fails to stop the car when brake pedal fully engaged.

A friend of mine experienced the same at the Abbeville-track, he ended up in the graveltrap... I always experience it at Pflanzgarten on the Nordschleife. It's a heart-stopping experience, I really prefer track-driving without ABS.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Why don't manufacturers install a ON-OFF switch for the ABS, like on certain motorcycles?

The only car I know, which had that feature, was the Ferrari F355. ABS could be deactivated by a button in the centre console.

Later on in the F355 life cycle this button was disabled by Ferrari.

The button was probably deemed to be too much of a product liability risk for a road car.
