2012 Porsche 991 Ruf RGT-8 at Geneva Motor Show

    RUF RGT 8

The RGT 8, first introduced here at Geneva in 2010, is now available based on the new Porsche 991 platform. The RGT 8 features the “all RUF”, naturally aspirated V8 that produces 550 hp. The flexibility of the V8 engine delivers extraordinary performance and a sound track that only a high‑revving, flat‑crank V8 can produce.

The V8 engine was inspired by racing technology and features hemispherically arranged valves, 180 degree “flat” crankshaft, dry sump lubrication and direct drive ancillaries eliminating all drive belts. The RGT 8 is available with only a six-speed manual transmission powering the rear wheels.

    Technical Data RGT 8

    Power at 550ps/405kW @ 8500
    Torque at 500 Nm @ 4000 1/min

It would also explain the different coloured calipers. PCCB caliper at the rear, caliper for a conventional cast iron disc at the front.

i like that last shot of the RUF where you can see how they opened up the view to the engine - looks really good.

KMM:  I'm beginning to suspect that the gap is part of the audio tuning of the exhaust. Probably similar to how a whistle functions.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

I inquired about the Ruf RGT8 - $268k base.  The number is based off of euro pricing so it is a moving target (they did not give me the euro number).  They also did not tell me what is offered as base and what are the options (prices).  Little frustrating as it was a serious inquiry (I was dealing with the US distributor for RUF).

It does have the 991 electronic steering, i asked if they could build around a 997.2 system, but did not get a direct reply on that question, all they said was that RUF can do a lot of customization.  I think the NA V8 would be killer with those torque and horsepower numbers.

But there seem to be a few 4.0's popping up here and there in the US market and I think that is a more special car

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Yeah I'd get the 4.0 over any RUF. Not that RUF is bad, Porsche just hit the nail with that track monster!

Not the GT3 R.. look at the other car that is wrapped up. Look at the mirrors... they're placed on the doors like for the 991 and you can clearly see the rollcage....

NEW 991 GT3 AND TURBO BUSY AT THE 'RING...

Our man at the Nordschleife spies Porsche working hard to ready the next round of 911 fun

    (28 March 2012)

After a largely successful launch of the new 991-shape Carrera and Carrera S, Porsche's engineers are busy buttoning down the set-up of the new Turbo and GT3 models.

Both of these more aggressive 991s are testing this week on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. And both cars are expected to build on the S model's 400bhp significantly.

If you listen closely to the GT3 mule in the first clip (identified by its larger, disguised, rear arches) you will hear the unmistakable sound of PDK in operation as it changes up a gear almost instantly right in front of the camera. Rumours are starting to firm up here in the village of Nurburg that the next GT3's 4.0-litre motor will come attached only to a PDK gearbox.

The Turbo also benefits from PDK, as well as a LOT of power and torque. The much-quoted figure of 550hp as a minimum level (and 600hp by some) doesn't seem that far-fetched if you listen to the overtake below.

No doubt a PDK, at least on the mule.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Nothing new : 997 Turbo already has PDK as an option and it is standard on the 997 Turbo S

    Porsche 911 GT3 RSR 4.0

"MotorsFan17 filmed this special edition 911 GT3 RSR 4.0. Originally a normal 3.8 liter GT3 RS, but the owner decided to upgrade the engine to a 4.0 liters and created a new aerodynamic setup for his car.

You can clearly see he extended the wheel arches, widened the track of the wheels, fitted a new rear spoiler and added additional aero fins at the front. On the technical side, a new exhaust was installed and it seems the suspension has been tweaked as well."

    Porsche 911 GT3 RSR 4.0 -- Video Link

...maybe a little inspiration for Andreas Preuninger and the team of engineers in Weissach developing the Porsche 991 GT3 RS?
