    New tires

I need new tires for the Boxster S (987.2). The Porsche dealer offered Michelin Pilot Sport N2 and  Pirelli P-Zero.

Any recommendation? What are the differences between both? I use the Boxster as my DailyDriver, only two or three days at the Nürburgring each year (I don’t want to drive a new record).

    Thanks!

(Maybe the wrong board, but I think that the characteristics of both tires don’t differ at the 911 or Boxster/Cayman

    Re: New tires

I would take the Michelin Pilot Sport, not a friend of the Pirelli PZero.

    Re: New tires

On my 997.2 I concluded that  the best all round OE tyre for road use is the Bridgestone. More comfortable than the Michelin with better wet weather performance (which will be of bigger benefit in Germany) than Michelin and more so than Pirelli. The Pirelli was a summer weather tyre but when very hot it deteriorated like chocolate!

The Bridgestone's handling (rated as Max performance summer tyre, like the other two) appeared a bit softer during the first day or two when I had memory of the previous tyres,  but it is top class for spirited drives,  if you don't go after lap times etc. It was also cheaper to buy than Michelin. in our market.

They do the Potenza RE050A in N0 for the size of your car if you wish to check it out.

    My personal experience.

    Re: New tires

Got Michelin Pilot Sport N2 on my Boxster and very happy with them. I did have Pirelli P-Zero on my previous 911 and I did not like them.

    Thanks.

I ordered Michelin Pilot Sport. I used Michelin the last two summers, was happy (dry perfect, wet ok). But you never know so I asked the Pros at RT.

Two more weeks on winter tires

    Re: New tires

Between your two choices, I think you got the best. Michelin are high quality.

I had a lot of trouble a few years back with the N3 Pirelli's. It must have been a bad batch, because they had variations in rolling force (they would balance fine but they would still shimmy). To their credit, the Pirelli dealer replaced them, for free, four times in the course of a year, before I gave up on them. I understand that this was probably a localized problem but the fact that the batch got through quality control (they were N3's at that, too!) is enough to keep me away from the brand.

Next time, if you can find an N-rated Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2, go for it - it is an incredible tire! Apparently, Porsche recognized this and they should be using it in the new 911 (has anyone checked?).

Only available for the 991 Carrera 3.4 and standard 19" wheels, unfortunately.

Judging by the 997, the basic model will be a rare sight and more so with standard wheel size. Goodyear might develop a 20" tyre in time.
