    Re: Grey Hair and Coffee

as always it depends of the eyes of the observer. I would say it looks much better - it is not radical. I am not a designer but sometimes you have to change only a few things and then the whole object looks better.

    ALDO:
    Wonderbar:

Takes a long time to become young.  At least that's what I will tell myself when I talk to my local Porsche Dr. next week about the following prescription:

Panamera Turbo S (June build/2013 model)

    Agate Grey/Espresso

    Turbo 20 inch rims

    PDK

    PCCBs

Carbon Interior Package, including multi-function wheel and illuminated door sills

    Black PDLS headlight package

Roll Up rear side window screens

    Lane Change Assist

    Rear camera

    Some leather stuff

I will post a few questions about options for group comment soon.  Hope you guys like the medicine--you may want some when you get old and become young.

If you can wait for one year - WAIT!

I swear you will love the next generation Panamera. Very very good looking car. I got the chance to see what we will get next year.

I presume it will be a facelift of the current model. Not a brand new model so soon?

So what is exactly different here?!!

    Re: Grey Hair and Coffee

    dxpetrov:

So what is exactly different here?!!

The differences will be visible mostly from the front and rear, not from the side. The side view is practically the same and according to everything I've seen and heard so far, the roof line will not be changed.

New front bumper, new front lights (not 991-like, this is crap), new rear bumper with new rear lights (slightly smaller and different "inner" design, it is difficult to explain... size and form not 991-like).

Interior: Practically the same but there seems to be a new PCM with a larger screen, not sure if it will be used for the facelift though.

Yes, the differences will be visible but not as much as many may think (or say Smiley). Porsche doesn't want to p.ss off current Panamera owners and/or lower the value of pre-facelift cars too much.

With the next generation Panamera things will be looking different though: Size will be almost unchanged but car will look smaller. Also Porsche will not use the current Panamera platform for the next generation anymore.

    Hope this helps.

Waiting for the facelift another year or so doesn't really help since:

    1. There won't be a Turbo S from the start and Turbo gets "only" mild power upgrade (20 horses or so, if any).

    2. The next generation Panamera is rumored early for a 2015 introduction.

It is visible but not worth waiting one year and compromising on the Turbo S. Smiley

Only two years later, the next gen is rumored to be introduced.

Since I lease the Panamera Turbo S, I couldn't care less but I get your point if someone is buying the PTS.

Stunning car, Hugo!  Is that espresso and carbon?  Do you have Sport Design package on the front?

    Re: Grey Hair and Coffee

Hi Aldo.  Your post has given me slight pause, I admit.  But facelift would probably come at Geneva in January 2013, then cars would not be available in the U.S. until summer 2013, and facelift Turbo S would probably come in summer of 2014.  By then the new generation would be coming out in 2015, and a Turbo S buyer would be investing in a "older" facelift model when a new generation (substantially redesigned) was on its way.

    Am I figuring this right?

    Pretty much. Smiley

The thing is: Porsche always puts facelift models on the market, sometimes maybe a little bit too fast for such a small manufacturer. Thinking of the first Mercedes E190 class (W201), this model was 11 (!) years on the market.

Why should I lie: When I ordered the Panamera Turbo S a few weeks ago, the person who told me that the facelift is due 2013, he also knows quite a lot of details about the project, asked me if I am crazy not to wait for the facelift ?

I asked him to give me some good reasons to wait and he started: Improved(but not completely new) look, improved(but not completely new) technology, 500-520 hp in the Turbo engine...Turbo S probably not available for another 6-12 months after facelift introduction..., better resale value.

Well...I just can't see why I should wait: The look will always bother me (I'm not a fan of sedans and especially big sedans), no new spectacular technology (car is already long enough on the market to have the regular quirks sorted out), 520 horses in the Turbo sound nice but are probably still slightly worse, performance-wise, than the 550 hp in the current Turbo S, Turbo S not available immediately and since I don't buy the car but lease it, resale value isn't really important.

So why would I keep myself enjoying the Panamera for another year or so ? It just didn't make sense, despite the fact that I really need this car as a fast family transport. Smiley

Yes, the facelift will make the older Panamera look slightly outdated, true. Maybe this is a good thing ? I can still tell people who envy me "nah, thats the old model, the new one is really expensive...". Smiley

There is any chance that facelifted Panamera will get the roof/tail line lowered? It would be so much better

    Re: Grey Hair and Coffee

According to the latest information, the roof line stays the same.

Only the front bumper, front lights, rear bumper and rear lights will be changed.

The changes are obvious and they will make the car visually smaller.

Any chance of the three seat bench at the back?

    Re: Grey Hair and Coffee

No, I'm afraid not. According to all rumors, the only interior change could be the "new" PCM with a larger display.

The 3-seat (rear) option may however be available in the next generation because there seems to be quite a demand for that. It is possible that the 3-seat option will only be available for the "L" model, the longer version.

    image0.jpg

That's the way the Panamera SHOULD be. Somebody cal porsche and tell them we've found the solution to all their problems.

    Re: Grey Hair and Coffee

The problem was WW. He sat in the back and NEEDED more head room, so they had to raise the bubble to please him and ruining the profile in the process.

    Re: Grey Hair and Coffee

To lower the roof and at the same time provide adequate headroom at the back, designers also had to lower the seats. Most probably this wasn't technically feasible given the Panamera platform and in the trade-off between looks and space, more room took priority.

A prettier limousine with inadequate space would have been a much worse sales proposition than a so-so design that can accommodate two persons at the back.
