Right, maybe there is a Macan underneath but this is a current Q5's front fascia, not only the grill but also the lights, even the fog lights and plastic around them is Q5's.

Thanks for the screenshots, BlackOctober! Where did you get them from?
The prototypes are no longer riding around as silver Q5s but they've picked up their character black color and tape. The front grille is being taken apart and it looks much more raw, like they're pulling the skin back to give way to what the Macan will finally look like.
Any idea before we see actual camouflaged Macan mules that aren't dressed-up Audis? Probably won't be long since the model is only a year and a half away from production.

Now this is smart... they are getting enough criticism for the Macan being thought as just a rebranded Q5 instead of a inhouse product, and they choose to use Q5 camo in development? 
that will help the image of Porsche DNA instead of an overpriced Q5. At least cover and camo the heck out of it, though in some curve balls with fake add ons, etc (like a Cayenne mules for example) but don't parade around in Q5 exterior on the mules

As to overpricing, we know that the Macan and the Q5 will not be identical products and not only in terms of image. How many basic Cayenne owners feel cheated because the Touareg is cheaper?

They don't have to, they just have to hear the hype about it and once a public image if formed its very hard to change.

We won't, but a lot of buyers are paying extra for the Macan not for its engineering but for its image, and being thought of as a rebranded Q5 is not ideal. I sure heck don't mind the least bit as long as the car is good, and the current Q5 is already a fantastic mid-size SUV, so I think its a good guarantee that the next Q5 and Macan will share platform.

Again its the image, a lot of customers could not tell a Q5 from a Macan engineering wise (the could not tell the engines apart, the suspensions, brakes, etc), but are will to pay the premiun for the Macan for the image difference, if that image difference is taken away, then for them it would be overpriced.

It's still too early for Porsche to start using mules with the Macan's final shape.
I wrote earlier, however, that they are making progress. The first mules we saw were silver Q5s with Audi logos, roll-cages, wheel arch extensions and Porsche wheels. The prototypes we saw in BlackOctober's post are now the characteristic black, the Audi logos are gone, black tape is everywhere, the grille is coming apart and the whole car looks more down-to-the-bolts. Still a Q5, but less a Q5 than the first cars we saw.
It won't be long before we see the actual camouflaged vehicle, and that's the one that will more closely resemble the sketch.
