    a bit unfair comparison IMO. The photo of the 981 is highly distorted because it was taken while standing too close to the car. The photo of the 987.2, on the other hand, was taken by a professional photographer from a distance.

    That is a valid argument. But yes, you are correct in the second post! For reference, here is another image taken at a similar angle to the yellow one. Still looks a million times better in my book.

    The problem with the second gen 987 Boxster and Cayman, imo, is the shape of the headlights. I suppose they tried to come close to those of the CGT, but ended up with something uninspired.

    The spoiler, LEDs, and the various openings are perfectly done, however. Ironically, the more organic, less angular shape of the air intakes would have worked perfectly with the original 987.1 headlights...

    What this shows is Yellow doesn't work on the 981. Just like flat Orange doesn't work on the Aventador and hides its' angular lines.

    It's looking very nice. I particularly like the integration of the Sport Chrono dial into the dash -- a big improvement on the wart!

    Everything in the new Boxster looks great to me, instead of tail lights.....I thought it was just a first impression, but seem's like it's not....I have to say - I don't like the tail lights surprise

    It's interesting that they are still using the RS60 color scheme, even 4 years on. (This even looks like GT Silver to me.) It is a great color combination, although I could not live with the red top.

    The base Boxster color combo is very interesting / appealing as well. I wonder how Lime Gold looks under normal lighting.

    I promised myself to wait until next spring, when the car will have had a year's worth of production and debugging (and to see what the Cayman looks like). However, I'm finding that hard to do...

    I have a problem with tail lights too

    Bestt shape was on 986,it had an angry looking expression from the back

    New ones are bland

    Bottom half should be fully horizontal instead of curved

    Rest of the car is very good loking

    Cant imagine who would choose an SLK or Z4 instead

    It should be noted that with the original Boxster and 996, Toyota helped Porsche out and showed them how to reduce costs. The expense to us was decreased quality, ugly mirrors, and shared front ends.

    And I agree, the new Boxster looks like an upmarket version of the MR-2. And you say Toyota was the copy, but the MR-2 was designed a while ago, the new Boxster was designed very recently. Porsche definetly had a chance to make it look like a proper Porsche, as did the 987. 

    But seriously, WTF WERE THEY THINKING? Look at the headlight shapes, they are EXACTLY the same.

    FWIW, the fact that Porsche employed  a Japanese production engineering consultant company to advise on lean production which had also worked for Toyota in the same capacity is hardly the same thing as Toyota helping out Porsche.

    Look at the lights! Look at the proportions and the details. You really think they are exactly the same??? It's like saying the Beetle headlights and the 911 headlights are "EXACTLY" the same, because both are round or ovoid.

    Yes, in the case of the Boxster and MR2, they are both trapezoidal, but it's all in the proportions and the integration. I find one design well done and appealing, and the other ill-fitting, kind of ugly and almost comical.

    Three quotes stick out for me:

    "The styling is sharper, neater and not at all like a Toyota MR2 MkIII in the metal", which is good news.

    "there's a tautness to the design - especially in darker colours - that makes it look solid but deft" I find this suprising because I have found the silver pictures best and I'm not really a fan of silver.

    "The PDK is brilliant but a little overwhelming - a great auto, fun when going fast, but a bit uninvolving when you want to really drive the little roadster. Similarly, the new electro-mechanical steering is pin-sharp, accurate and just a little numb. None of this stuff is bad as such, it just feels very mature, much more like you'd expect in a bigger car (like a 911, plucking a Thing From Nowhere). All of which makes for a measurably ‘better' car (more refinement, more efficiency), but just edges the Boxster up a class and away from simple roadster fun."  Personally I don't want a sports car to be like this, be it a 991 or 981 but I'll reserve judgement until I try one.

    Just got back home to Bern after spending the morning and afternoon at the Geneva Motor Show.

    I wasn't invited by Porsche but spent the majority of my time at the Porsche stand. Finally saw the new Boxster and let me just say... What a stunner. I loved how almost all the cars on display were silver - very consistent brand identity and really brings outbthe lines and curves in the vehicles' designs. Stunning stunning stunning, I'm still speechless!

    I managed to pick up a Boxster catalogue after a little good luck with one of the hostesses; did anyone score an English one? Better yet, is the electronic PDF version in English available yet? I can't seem to find one and would love to have it ASAP.

    Hope to ear from you guys soon.
