288 GTO
Saw this car at my dealer, Joe and fell in love. There is, of course, the history, a GTO, not the 250 ok but a real GTO nonetheless, unlike the 599, no disrespect to 599 GTO but it's a pure marketing exercise.
288 GTO was dictated by Enzo to go racing in Group B and was a Homologation exercice, 272 worldwide.
The car is gorgeous, small, so compact, reminds of a 308 Group 4 Rallye car. It comes with Sport Exhaust, pristine conditions, high but clean mileage and full Ferrari Classiche.
Then came the testdrive. Oh yes, the testdrive. I was expecting a truck but gosh was I wrong. The car is light, about 1200 kgs and its V8 Twinturbo churns out 400 hp, non assisted lovely steering, so much feel. Lovely noise, driving position takes a bit of getting used to with offset pedals and tilted wheel but after a few minutes, it feels natural.
First time you put your foot down, make sure the wheels are straight, a Turbo Lag that lasts about forever and then, past 4000 rpm, it's fast forward VCR 80's style! So fast, so cool, so fun!
This car is a legend in Ferrari history and should prove a great investment (they have doubled in value in 5 years!), the fact that it's so much fun to drive is just added bonus.
I'm getting new Turbos fitted and a vintage stereo, always handy when you sit in traffic.
