    RSR Martini

    My latest acquisition, a 1973 911 2.8 RSR martini!

Factory car, chassis R5. Only 8 cars produced and 3 known in existence today including the one at the museum.

This is fantastic and I am privileged. The car won the concours d'elegance at Rennsport 4 this summer.

It's been signed by the pilots who raced it in the 70s inside the front bonnet and Norbert Singer, head engineer of Porsche Motorsport.

After several years in the US (many thanks to its previous owner Brad Hook for great transaction, a true petrolhead), R5 is back in Europe and I intend to race it in as many events as possible.

Car has been fully restaured by Kevin Janette from Gunnar Racing in the US to concours specs, the level of attention to details is sick.

It arrived in the UK yesterday, here are a few pics.

Fantastic car. Is that Joe Macari's workshop?

    Re: RSR Martini

Wow Futch! You're close to owning your own Porsche museum now, aren't you? :-)
Did you ever do any "official" photoshoots with any of your cars? I can imagine that, you obviously being a petrolhead, you may have some pics like this one of your own cars:

Fantastic Futch! My father had the 1973 2.7 RS (not the RSR unfortunately) which we picked up at the factory. A fantastic car!

Many congratulations and enjoy her in good health.

Is that the Willi Kausen's signature? The one that raced will Gerard Larousse and George Follmer?

    Re: RSR Martini

Nice Futch you are a true petrolhead and a big Porsche lover.

I rember that you want to add to your "collection" a 993-996 GT1 i didin't find one?

Yes it is, Joe takes care of most of my road cars and a few race cars, he's awesome.

Yes it is, I sat in it yesterday for the fist time with a huge grin thinking, so many legends have sat where I am right now, life doesn't get better than this, the stuff of dreams.

You're becoming quite the collector, now...don't you ? Smiley

Congratulations, this is certainly an amazing acquisition. Will you drive it during certain classic car events or is it for your collection only ? It looks like new, impressive. Smiley

    Thank you guys.

Yes Mikigta, GT1 is high on my list and in my opinion a sound and timely investment, prices are not silly yet and I believe that once it'll be able to race in categories like Group C in a few years, prices will soar.

908 would also amazing, 917 obviously but prices have gone through the roof with the crisis.

An original 2.5 ST would be fabulous, probably the most beautiful 911 ever, which is why I love the Singer so much. But the ST are worth huge money now.

934 also fabulous, 2.1 Turbo, argh, the list goes on and on and on....Smiley

    Merci Christian,

Yes my dream is to build a beautiful collection.

I am lucky to have the opportunity to do it, and now is good time I think, far better than stock market, hedge funds or complex investments I don't understand anything about.

... better now! Is that the car that received a turbocharger during its racing time and recently got converted back to the n/a engine?

Wow, what can I say?  Respect!  This must be the coolest 911 on RT, without a doubt.  Smiley

    Re: RSR Martini

Could be the car that won at Vallelunga  yes

The only difference I see is that the Follmer/Kausen RSR had a green lip, whilst the sister (van Lennep/Muller) car had the red lip as seen on this car.

    It is indeed.

R5 was the car used as a prototype for the 1st 2.1 Turbo. The car remained with Gunnar racing as a 2.1 Turbo for many years until recently when Kevin Janette decided to convert it back to its original specs of 2.8 RSR.

There is a great article in the December issue of Panorama about R5 and its history.

Factory prototypes changed appearances a lot during their racing days, R5 was even a totally different model at some stage as a 2.1 Turbo, and at the Nurburgring, it wore a Mary Stuart spoiler.

I will check about Vallelunga, I know it didn't do Le Mans but it won the 1000 km of Dijon in 73.

Stunning... i guess I said that already. Not only must it be a hoot to drive, I can only imagine how the engine sounds.

The fact that it even has historic significance in Porsche´s development of turbocharged cars is even more impressive. Hats off to you, this is a fantastic machine.

    Re: RSR Martini

    You've officially bought my dreamcar!

I've gotten to know the 2.8 RSR at a trackday in Abbeville a couple of years ago and thought it was fantastics, the stuff of dreams as far as I'm concerned.

You might know the particular example, I assume the 2.8 RSR world is a small world. Smiley

I dont know what wrong with rennteam today, but my posts are getting eaten alive!

    Re: RSR Martini

@ Futch - If the car won the 1973  1000Km of Dijon, then it is in fact the Muller/van Lennep car. I am sure the car has had many liveries along its life, but I guess that replaced the "red lip"during the restoration process.

Kausen must have raced it at some point in time.

You are so lucky to have this oppurtunity! One of the best Porsches ever built. Do you plan to keep it as a garage queen, or drive it like it was meant to be driven?

Love the car Futch!! Saw a sister car in the UK a few years back at Maxted-Page when this and another similar car had bin brought back by the owner from US too.

    Enjoy in good health.
