    SL63 AMG revealed [video]

    The Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG features the familiar M157 twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine that produces 529bhp (394 kW / 536 PS). Thanks to the all-aluminum bodyshell and assorted magnesium components the SL's body now weighs 242 pounds (110 kg) lighter than its steel bodied predecessor. The result is a vehicle that achieves greater performance running 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds (4.2 seconds with the AMG Performance Pack) and 30 percent combined fuel consumption savings with 28.5mpg and CO2 emissions at 231g/km compared to 328g/km for the previous generation.

    They create a beautiful vehicle with a nice engine, but why do we keep expecting more? :) SL was revolutionary 7 years ago. It seems that the innovation stopped and they are just repackaging.

    What do you expect ?

    There isn't really much they can revolutionize but the weight reduction is already a step forward, so is the new and greener engine. Small steps are important too. Smiley

    I also have to admit that I don't like the looks of the new SL too much but surprisingly, the AMG version looks good. Weird.

    Look at the publicity photo of the SL63 and see how small and insignificant the driver looks compared to the size and shape of the car. I don't think Mercedes chose a 1.50m person for this photo shoot.

    My point is that, rightly or wrongly, the main idea of buying this type of cars (cabrios, roadsters etc, of the luxury kind especially) is for the driver to look good inside them, especially women and even men who care very much about  their appearance. This fundamental prerequisite is not met in the case of the new Mercedes.

    I rather think this is a photographic "issue", depending on angle, ambient light conditions, etc.

    Of course the SL63 AMG is a big car but not that big.

    I have seen the car in flesh yesterday. I had to say I loved it - looked very modern, much better than the previous SL. Especially with the AMG kit it looked great! The appearance is wide and flat, didnt feel that the car is to big.

    The marketing is indeed horrendous. Just seeing the Boris Becker ad keeps me away of this car. How can they still take this shelf warmer to promote a new sports car. 

    The Video is indeed super boring - Conny is absolutely right, they drive the car like sitting in an armchair.

    Even so - I've seen some cars in reality now and have to admit that I kind of like it - its a nice car. The AMG Version is for sure very high performing, but also kind of overpriced!

    I see many younger men driving like that ("sitting in an armchair...") lately, mostly in older BMW 5 series. Weird. I won't play the nationality card here but I think you observed the same thing.
