    2012 997 GT3 RSR

Anyone who comes across pictures of Porsche teams taking delivery of their new 2012 RSR could you please post them or the link. I love seeing the cars in bare white when delivered. I heard Falken has taken their car this past week but have yet to see any pictures. Thanks

    Re: 2012 997 GT3 RSR

+1, seeing these cars without all the graphics makes them look even more purposeful, I love that!

    Re: 2012 997 GT3 RSR

Hey Spideridol, i have seen all factory press pics, but waiting to see team pics getting their cars for the first time as they are always the best to see.

    Re: 2012 997 GT3 RSR

Ah! I see. It's more of an event thing that the actual car that you would like to see.

If I come across any, I'll be sure to post.

    Re: 2012 997 GT3 RSR

SpyderIdol look what I found searching the net..... Look at the front bumper it looks like it has changed for the better. I love Porsche race cars! Never seen these beforeRSR 2012 A.jpgRSR 2012 B.jpg

    Re: 2012 997 GT3 RSR

Yes, I had seen these before.

The front bumper seen on the car at the Night of Champions (above)  has changed since the first pictures appeared of the 2012 RSR. Most likely as a result of testing.

    Re: 2012 997 GT3 RSR

    2012-Porsche-911-GT3-RSR_01.jpg

The new Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is ready to race. The top model of Porsche Motorsport’s customer racing vehicles will head into the 2012 season with extensive modifications. Particularly striking at first glance are the changes to the body: the width of the new GT3 RSR has grown by 48 millimetres. Built to conform to the A.C.O. “LM” GTE regulations, the 911 represents the crowning pinnacle of a range of successful customer sport race cars that are based on the 997 type 911 GT3 RS street sports car.

Powering the new 911 GT3 RSR is a particularly efficient six-cylinder boxer engine with a four-litre capacity. With a mandatory air-restrictor, it generates 460 hp (338 kW) and drives the 310 millimetre wide rear wheels. The diameter of the front wheels has increased by 30 mm to now measure 680 millimetres. The Porsche sequential six-speed gearbox is operated via paddle shifts on the steering wheel.

The nose and rear panels are adapted to the flared front and rear wheel arches, as are the door sill and the wheel arch coverings. The aerodynamic concept is complemented by a new ducting of the intake air. Openings in the rear side sections, as known from the turbo variants of the Porsche 911, replace the air scoop on the engine hood, which is very similar to the 911 GT2 RS street sports car.

The new 911 GT3 RSR can be raced at the Le Mans 24 Hours, the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Le Mans Series, the American Le Mans Series as well as the International GT Open and in other series and races.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 RSR will be delivered to customer squads around the world from January 2012. The selling price is 498,000 Euro plus value added tax of the respective countries.

Awesome Spyderidol! question. Porsche just announced today that there will not be new 991 GT3 cup car till at least end of 2013 season. Does this mean that there will be no RSR for 2013 in 991 form. Got this from motorsport.com

It's interesting to see the air-ram intakes on the 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR moved from the rear engine cover to be repositioned in front of the rear wheel arches... maybe they have started to inch the engine block further forward in the chassis?

...it's always possible that the future 991 GT3 RS could have been designed to be mid-engined!?!

Nobody knows at this point in time. My own theory is that Porsche may use their rumored upcoming mid-engined car as their top GT class product  thus "reserving" the 911 (991) for their CUP program (and other GT3 series). Expect Porsche's motorsport GT product range to reflect their road-going range.

We will see very few RSR's this year competing in the various series. The 458 is the car to have. Porsche's market for the RSR seems to have dried up. (with the exception of those teams that are very close to Porsche).

    ..if its a 911 , it wont be mid-engined.

No movement of the engine block forward. Just a revised intake system. Perhaps the wider rear track width allowed for the engine cooling to move .

    Re: 2012 997 GT3 RSR

Here is a picture of the Manthey RSR that will be competing in the GT Open series.

Note the different front to the ALMS RSR's . It seems that the "European" RSR's will have a different front to those provided to the teams competing in the ALMS. This could be because of the different track layouts.

Also: Rene Rast and Marco Holzer will share driver duties.

Here is a better picture (much nicer angle IMO) of the Falken RSR.

I was quite excited to read this. Team and drivers are outstanding and I am very curious how well they can compete against the 458. If I am not mistaken, the above picture is a photoshop and still shows the early stage of the 2012 car. Fairly certain that the car used in the races resembles the above shown team cars.

Have to say that the modifications the 997 received are quite significant for such an "old" model. Possibly the revised suspension will also be featured on the succeeding model?

    Re: 2012 997 GT3 RSR

Hi Ferdie - If it is a photoshop, then that does explain a lot. A shame really. I prefer the earlier look of the car.

Very early to tell, but the quickest RSR is the Flying Lizard # 45 and they are currently  7th in class and running about 1 second off the pace. Not brilliant, but lets see how they progress.

    Re: 2012 997 GT3 RSR

Which cars are setting the pace? Any links?

    Re: 2012 997 GT3 RSR

Afternoon session Ferrari was 1,2 in class with the best of the Porsche RSR's finishing 5th fastest. I hope they can get more speed out of the cars. I don't think they should be able to run a bigger air restrictor since others have V8 motors.

    Re: 2012 997 GT3 RSR

Not a very promising performance for the first outing of the new RSR. It's early days yet, but a quick car out of the box is always a good sign, and there weren't many of those signs.

The teams will have a program that they will be working through, and the new(ish) RSR will need time to catch up. According to Pat Long, they were doing suspension work yesterday and they are very pleased with the balance of the car. They are, however, suffering from a lack of straight-line speed.(I hope that they sort this out, or it's going to be a long Le Mans this year). Wolf Henzler was also very impressed with the balance of the car.

@996cal - do you mean a small restrictor?. The bigger the restrictor, the more air goes in , and thus more power.

Remember that the 997 RSR is already running with larger restrictors that the ACO Table allows for a 4.0L engine.

The only car that is running the restrictor size that is listed in the ACO table are the 458's (apart from some waivers they have). All the other cars have had BoP adjustments.
