Re: Which new car should RC get: Cayenne or Panamera?!!

Hey RC - my advice ... the Panamera has plenty of buttons ... get it if it pushes yours :)

Just kidding ... I think Wonderbar has it right ... it's just about what gives you fun ... whoever else drives it is just irrelevent ...

i think matte black is already a faded gizmo. standard black looks good. however, in my honest opinion the all black panamera looks somewhat like a hearse.

as for the shift-paddles....i hardly ever use them in any of my cars. if a car has torque, the paddles are not that important as we usually just drive in auto sports mode and the cars basically do it all.

Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

Re: Which new car should RC get: Cayenne or Panamera?!!

I think it has to be black - there is a reason why every photo is a black car - some cars just have to be a certain colour...

RC - what website were the photos from? I'd be interested to see what other stars are driving, apart from the Prius lot of course...

I love the matte look, and it's great that it doubles as a protective film. But ...it's so incredibly ostentatious, which you're worried about to some extent already...

Re: Which new car should RC get: Cayenne or Panamera?!!

I collected the car photos with the stars from various web sites, it is amazing how many young people are actually driving a Panamera. indecision

@Wonderbar: I actually love that younger people drive this car because I wasn't sure if this car suits me. I wear jeans most of the time and the only tie I own is the one from my private swiss school (as a memory), the last time I wear a tie was my wedding...almost 18 years ago. indecision It is even more surprising because I actually work in a business where many colleagues actually wear a tie during work.

You can't even imagine how much of a help you were and still are in my decision(s), thanks a lot again, guys.

My heart isn't really with the Panamera, maybe because I never was the sedan/limousine type of driver. I like it flat and light or high and heavy. The Panamera will be a somehow new experience for me, I owned a Mercedes E55 AMG many years ago and while this car was fun to drive (it had various mods like limited slip differential, 300 kph speed limit, a special auto gearbox cooling system or a sportier AMG shifting software), I sold it after only 7 months or so of ownership. This wasn't me.

I just hope that the Panamera Turbo S will be my "thing", if not, I have to live "only" 4 years with it.

Btw: Yesterday, we met with some friends and I mentioned that I'm getting a Panamera. Two of them actually told me how happy they are that I don't get another SUV..."they are very harmful to the environment". This was actually pretty surprising but what the heck...if they are OK with the Panamera...Hybrid... smiley

I told you guys...people are just plain crazy.

True, my wife hates it and after doing some thinking, this isn't really the right color for such a huge car like the Panamera. I have to get a black Panamera because in my opinion, this is the only color which somehow hides the humongous proportions of the car. My dealer has a white car and a silver one and especially the silver one looks horrible. The white is OK, it looks "innocent" but it makes the Panamera look massive. Black is just right, I will go for plain black, not even met. black because it is less shiny.

Btw: In my home town, hearses are usually grey and not black. Smiley

Still not sure about PCCB though: The yellow brake calipers attract a lot of attention and the standard brake is amazingly good on the Panamera Turbo S. On the other hand, I love PCCB. It allows me to choose a very precise braking point, not sure however if I'm going to drive the Panamera the same way I would drive a 911. This remains to be seen.

You are right with the paddles but the only reason I don't get them is the carbon steering wheel. If I miss the paddles, I can still exchange the steering wheel, this is nothing really difficult.

I'm pretty sure it is fun driving but I'm not so sure if it will be fun looking at. I usually don't care too much about looks on a car but for this kind of price tag, it should at least be a little bit attractive. People seem to love or to hate the Panamera, there doesn't seem to be anything in the middle. Which is kind of shocking.

Why you don't consider carbongrau or achatgrau. They suit the body style, I think, and they are more interesting than pure black.

The colour in the video is good IMO:

Oh...I like black a lot on cars. Smiley

Achatgrau in the video is stylish but not flashy or ostentatious so as to attract negative reaction. Besides, this colour is unique to the Turbo S (in the Panamera range) which is a good thing. The very few people in-the-know will recognize the Turbo S from the colour (even without the badges) while the rest will assume it is an entry level Panamera.

Black is OK but makes the heavy rear look like an amorphous mass Smiley

Re: Which new car should RC get: Cayenne or Panamera?!!

Achatgrau is a color my wife wouldn't like...she hates any car color which is only slightly close to...silver.

Luckily, me and my wife are on the same page when it comes to car colors. She started to hate her white M3 Cab. "Never white again", she told me recently.

Let's talk about the rims now: I got second thoughts about the rims, I actually like the Turbo rims a lot.
What do you guys think ?

Love these rims, and I would not paint them black!

Re: Which new car should RC get: Cayenne or Panamera?!!

A good design but they cannot be colour coded. The grey colour stays irrespective of the exterior colour of the car. Therefore IMO they suit a silver or grey car more than a black one. On a black car the Panamera Sport wheels are the best.

Re: Which new car should RC get: Cayenne or Panamera?!!

The Turbo II wheels are okay, but not more. Agree that they work better with lighter colours and not the best match with a black car. I think the same applies for the 991 - Carrera classic wheels are better suited on a silver car and on a black car the standard carrera s wheels looks better.  I think the sport wheels are the best option for the panamera even though I would prfere an alternative wheel that is less busy. The 991 carrera s wheel for instance look better. Will you do "Black" or "Basalt black"?

I think Porsche should offer a darker grey colour in between Agate grey and black. That would look fantastic in combination with painting the wheels in the exteriour colour. Just my 2 cents.

    Colours:

For northern European climates, I like Agate Grey with Expresso leather, Turbo wheels.

For sunnier climates, I like Carrara White with Expresso leather and black Turbo wheels.

    Models:

Personally, given the choice between the Panamera and the Cayenne, I would pick the Cayenne every time.

IMvHO the Cayenne started life hideously ugly but has now become one of the most attractive SUVs on the market.

Unfortunately, the Panamera has a rather clumsy profile and a really ugly rear end. Maybe it too will become better looking in future iterations.

Re: Which new car should RC get: Cayenne or Panamera?!!

Yes, the current Panamera somehow reminds me of the first gen Cayenne...unfortunately.

I really like the current Cayenne Turbo but the performance difference between the Cayenne and the Panamera is huge (3 seconds from 0-200 kph and I'm comparing the Cayenne Turbo Powerkit version) and handling is completely different too, with the Panamera being very close to the 911 drive and feel.

On the other hand, like my wife said...we never had a Panamera. I'm just a little bit afraid that her judgement is a little bit clouded by the fact that she recently saw a friend of hers in a Panamera, her husband is a business man in the region and she loved how the Panamera looks. Women... yes

Regarding the color combos you mentioned: If I would live in Miami, I would own a white Panamera Turbo S with black leather and black painted Panamera Sport wheels. Smiley The Agate Grey, especially in the combination with Espresso leather and the turbo wheels just looks too elegant for me. Not really my cup of tea.

Btw: This whole discussion actually reminds me of some major flaw in the Porsche car configurator: The pictures just don't work, Porsche should use real car photos instead, it should be photo realistic with the possibility to zoom in on the interior or even exterior parts. The current car configurator sucks big time, I just realized it now.

Thanks again for your help, guys...keep it going, it really helps !!!

The Cayenne vs. Panamera choice is made easier in Germany IMO. On the autobahn at 250+km/h the Panamera Turbo S would leave the Cayenne Turbo PK behind in all departments. In speed limited countries the Cayenne might be the more versatile car and the better overall choice.

Yes, very true. Unfortunately many of our trips take us outside Germany (Austria, Italy...) and they have speed limits. Not that I always respect them Smiley but the performance advantage of the Panamera Turbo S over the Cayenne Turbo PK would be minimal.

Oh boy...I should have put my signature under the lease contract without looking back. I think too much... Smiley
