    cool car.

    Thanks for the kind words!

I was originally thinking of paint-to-sample, but I just lost my nerve at the time of decision.  This car is the philosophical replacement for one of the few cars I regret selling -- my 1974 IROC 911RS/RSR.  I was going to get it painted the same color (hell gruen) but there were complicating factors with the paint process; and gaining PAG approval for the color in the short time window available was problematic.  So, in a cowardly way, I opted for white with white wheels.  I think it looks good in this color scheme and am quite happy with how it turned out.

The allocation process was quite interesting.  My dealer was allocated a single GT3RS 4.0 due to whatever decision process was used by PCNA.  The potential USA demand for the 4.0 was greatly underestimated by PCNA for whatever reason.  There were other dealers in my area that received zero allocations.  So, it became competitive among potential customers as to who would "be allowed" to buy the car.  Odd, but true.

It should be noted that which customers were considered "deserving" enough to receive an allocation was a decision left up to the dealer ownership to decide.  Another customer here in Cincinnati has a very close connection with the dealer ownership and was promised the allocation, leaving me with uncertain options.  I called a few other dealers to gauge the availability of uncommitted allocations and I was left with the impression that few, if any, were available.

I then started my own campaign to call every living person with whom I had ever had contact in PCNA and PAG to lobby for a "personal" (not dealer-based) allocation.  Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld can get cars irrespective of dealer, so I thought I would give it a try at my own (much lower) level.   My dealer general manager (not the owner) also invested a serious amount of time and effort.  I soon found out that allocations for the 4.0 were a political hot potato among dealers and that PCNA regional sales managers were under tremendous pressure from all sides to magically produce cars for "important" customers for "important" dealers.  What a zoo!

Somehow, I was able to be allocated a car.  How the process actually worked will remain a mystery forever, because nobody will admit who did what and why (I have my own ideas that shall remain unspoken).  I am eternally grateful to all those in PCNA, PAG, and my dealer who managed the impossible.

When I picked up the car it had 7 miles showing on the odometer.  It now has 12 (I'm 5 miles from the dealer).

    Re: GT3 RS 4.0

Congratulations on buying an epic 911 - and probably one of the only 997s which will become a future classic.  Whatever you do, don't sell this one!  Smiley

    Re: GT3 RS 4.0

Awesome, Mike! The story seems to be equally as entertaining as the car...

I can't take all the credit for that one. I have a similar view, so it's easy to relate. Although mine is a bit more obvious Smiley

    Re: GT3 RS 4.0

I had gone through the same process - wanted Hellgelb, but could not get approval, and went with white/white/red in the end. No regrets whatsoever! Congratulations, enjoy the car, it really is as amazing as everyone says!

    Re: GT3 RS 4.0

Congratulations Mike!  I am very glad for you to have one of these.

Though I wish good on many, many people, there are few people local (or otherwise) to whom I could express such sincere complements.

    Enjoy!!

Great color scheme and a very interest allocation story. There is a lesson to be learned from your experience. If you want something bad enough and have the unshakeable will to pursue it, most of the time you will succeed. kiss

Great detailing job ... quite hard to tell at first glance that it's a RS 4.0 as opposed to a regular RS .... hope the owner knows the detailer posted all those photos :)
