    991 Aerokit Cup

    Apologies if this is a repost but I have realised that the new 991 aerokit is available on the porsche.de website configurator.

    It looks somewhat more low-key than the 997 aerokit, a tad more along the lines of the 997 turbo aerokit - I cant make my mind up yet if I like it or not as much as the old aerokit.  Oh and there are additional wheel options too - perhaps these are the new 991 Turbo wheels?

    It also appears that there is a slightly cheaper option of a "Sport Design Package" that gives the same revised front splitter but just the ducktail at the back - without the fin...

    As the GT3 has largely looked like the aerokit cars on 997 I wonder if these is a taster for the look of the 991 GT3???

    I like the sport design package very much - but knowing that the GT3 will mostsurely look even more desirable I am afraid I am stuck......cheeky

    The Aerokit Cup doesn't look good at all IMO. The front is OK but the ducktail together with the wing they look too heavy and contrast badly with the thin rear lights. I hope the 991 GT3 doesn't look like that

    The Sport Design is better but the ducktail is too retro and should have been forgotten, really.

    For the first time I like ducktail on Sport Design and IMHO this package looks pretty nice. Did you saw the way normal rear spoiler looks in extended position? On lighter colors 991s it looks simply awfull when looked directly from behinde. Something like open black hole comes to my mind...

    Don't you think that that is a sweeping generalization? I can tell you that the first time I went to the Porsche factory in the early seventies, it was to pick up a 2.7 Carrera RS (Father's car) . I think  I know very well Porsche history and/or duck tail.Smiley

    Completely agree. I generally dislike Porsche´s aerokits (excluding GT2 and GT3) but the Sport Design package is surprisingly pleasing, the ducktail looks much better in reality and appears as a appropriate reference to the original. Nothing retro in my opinion.

    Right Ferdie, and as you correctly point out, it is an opinion.  Some will like it; others wont. It's the way things generally work.. It has nothing to do with history. Coincidentally - I didn't like it in 1973 , and still don't like it today.

    To be fair, RC didn't say "those who don't like it just don't know the history," he said "those who don't know the history won't like it."  A little different.  Maybe still a little bit of a generalization, but not quite the same thing...

    Guess I'm an oddball here.  I like the duck tail and wing combo, but find the aerokit front to be too busy.  I wasn't wild about the 7GT3.1 front either though, but love the 7GT3.2 version. 

    I still wish Porsche would make a clean way to have the GT3RS wing (current versions) separable so that the upper portion could be removed and the lower remaining portion would look like a simple duck tail.  Emphasis on the word "clean" though...

    Oh, and thumbs-up to Porsche for the configurator with 3D and movie mode.  Smiley

     Wow very nice HD video - thanks for posting!

    I really like those wheels too. Interestingly they dont appear on the UK or the US configurator but do appear on the german site.  Anybody know if they are going to be the std 991 turbo wheels or just an option for the whole range??

    They will be one of the standard wheel options once available. The UK site generally does not list any items currently not available to order e.g these wheels, sport design package etc. There are some exceptions to this general rule as the aluminium  window trims, carbon and aluminium interior options made it onto the UK configurator before the factory advised PGB that they would only be phased in from January production or later.
