    997TT Tiptronic Gear Ratios...

Anyone know what the gear ratio is on the Tip? Has those numbers even come out yet?

For example can you hit 60mph in 1st gear? Information like that....
    Thanks in advance!

I have the gear ratios at home, I'll post them tonight. Promise. The 6th gear of the manual is shorter than the 5th gear Tiptronic, if this is what you're interested in. And if I remember right, the first gear Tiptronic is shorter than the first gear manual.

    I'll post the specs tonight.

    Re: 997TT Tiptronic Gear Ratios...

    thanks RC

    Re: 997TT Tiptronic Gear Ratios...

please, RC, post also the gear ratios for the manual ;-)

    Re: 997TT Tiptronic Gear Ratios...

Yes RC, that will be great, please post the gear ratios for the manual as well, if you can. Thanks in advance!

    Re: 997TT Tiptronic Gear Ratios...

anyone know if you can hit 62mph in 1st gear with TIP?

i am not 100% sure but i bet you wont hit 62mph in first gear!

first gear will go up to ~45mph

Only if the car had an optional "low end TQ" OHV 7 Liter like a C6 Z06 , which hits 62 in first at the rev limiter!

It doesn't need low end torque. The first generation Gallardo hit 68mph in first gear!!!

    Re: 997TT Tiptronic Gear Ratios...

That's true, but it wasn't a good idea, therefore they changed the gear ratios (for example first gear 27% shorter).

    Re: 997TT Tiptronic Gear Ratios...

    Gear Ratios 997 Turbo:

    TIPTRONIC S MANUAL

    1. 3,59 1. 3,82
    2. 2,19 2. 2,14
    3. 1,41 3. 1,48
    4. 1,00 4. 1,18
    5. 0,83 5. 0,97
    Manual 6. 0,79

    Overall gear ratio:
    Tiptronic: 3,06
    Manual: 3,44

    For comparison, 996 Turbo:

    TIPTRONIC S MANUAL

    1. 3,59 1. 3,82
    2. 2,19 2. 2,05
    3. 1,41 3. 1,41
    4. 1,00 4. 1,12
    5. 0,83 5. 0,92
    Manual 6. 0,75

As you may have noticed, the 997 Turbo Tiptronic S gear ratio is the same as in the previous 996 Turbo model.
The 997 Turbo Manual gear ratio is in each gear (exception: first gear) shorter than on the previous 996 Turbo model. So here goes the conspiracy of a longer gear ratio to make the manual version accelerate slowlier than Tiptronic by purpose.

    Re: 997TT Tiptronic Gear Ratios...

    thx rc!

can you please post the overall gear ratios for the 996 too? thx

And me "BY Purpose" i cancelled my order for the 997tt

    Re: 997TT Tiptronic Gear Ratios...

    997TT TIPTRONIC:

    gear km/h (mph)
    1. 75 (47)
    2. 124 (77)
    3. 192 (120)
    4. 271 (169)
    5. 326 (204)

there must be a mistake in the manual's data. because with an overall gear ratio of 3,44 and a sixth gear with 0,79 and 6600rpm redline, the manual car would reach its redline at 304,7 km/h or 190,4mph.

    Re: 997TT Tiptronic Gear Ratios...

First of all thank you RC for posting this great info. But I never really understood 100% exactly what those numbers meant.
    1. 3,59 1. 3,82
    2. 2,19 2. 2,14
    3. 1,41 3. 1,48
    4. 1,00 4. 1,18
    5. 0,83 5. 0,97
    Manual 6. 0,79

Can someone give me a QUICK explanation so I can finally understand... Thanks in advance guys!!!

Basically, you need the gear ratio, one from the above, take the final drive ratio, the RPM and the tyre circumference in cm. Multiply them all. From that you will get x cm/min, which you can then convert into km/h or mph. Now I know there mist be an easier way, but I don't know it. Maybe if you made the tyre circumference in kilometers (0.002 km ) and multiplied the RPM by 60 at the beginning. So basically:

(Gear ratio) × (Final drive) × (RPM × 60) × (tyre circumference in kilometers) = speed in gear

I just took the available data from the technical description, it may be wrong but this is all I have.

i guess tiptronic and manual have both the same overall gear ratio with 3,06. that would make more sense.

I wonder if the manual's longer first gear ratio in the 997TT versus 996TT related to the VTG's torque profile and thus NOT intentional (conspiratorial ) limitation of the manual's acceleration abilities-and possibly "correctable" (along with pre-boost and other power "adjustments") on the "S?"

    Re: 997TT Tiptronic Gear Ratios...

Al - The 997 Turbo 6-speed and the 996 Turbo 6-speed have the same overall gear ratio in 1st gear.

Thanks for the correction! Is there anywhere I can see why certain numbers are used in the formula?

    Re: 997TT Tiptronic Gear Ratios...

rpm / 60 = rps (rounds per second)

meter per second * 3,6 = kilometers per hour

Yep, sorry, my error, rather gears 2-6 are longer on the 997TT manual than on the 996TT manual, according to RC's numbers, or are those figures he posted valid?

And do we know the overall gear ratios for the 997TT-TipS and manual?

    Sorry for sounding dim-witted here.
