"Tubi or Not Tubi, that is the question"

Come on guys...talk me out of it.
Local dealer will do the install and all for $2400. I have been leaning towards PSE but spoke with Champion Motorsports and went over sound, Dyno results and all and now I am at a loss. PSE is the same price by the way (not connected to Sports Chrono)...

Dyno results? Without different high flow catalytic converters, the exhaust itself may gain you a few HP at a certain rev range. And you gain some, you loose some...usually. How much do they claim?

The PSE has the best sound available so far, if you're into the "original" 911 boxer sound. And another goodie: you still have your warranty and it is a "genuine" car, not something you messed around with. I don't know how important this is in the US but over here in Germany, aftermarket stuff usually diminuishes the car's value, especially on a Porsche.

Re: "Tubi or Not Tubi, that is the question"

I would go for the PSE. Like RC I would stay away from a lot of aftermarket stuff. Either way you go I'm sure it will be quite nice.

Re: "Tubi or Not Tubi, that is the question"

I prefer my Tubi sound to the PSE ones I have tried. I also found the PSE to be too quiet on the 997 unlike the 996 where it was perfectly loud

Re: "Tubi or Not Tubi, that is the question"

I've talked a lot with people at Champion about the Tubi. Although, I thing Tubi is an excellent product, I highly doubt their claimed h.p. and torque.
The sound is more of a high pitched wail, which is very cool and you do save a few pounds (claimed). I believe about 20 lbs. After much thought decided to go wi PSE, until the turbo came out. So now I'll have to wait fot the turbo exhaust choices.
From my PSE experiences, I'd give it a more throaty and better in the lower rev ranges, aggressive sound and like others say, it's oem. IMO, I'd say get PSE.

Re: "Tubi or Not Tubi, that is the question"

    First, great subject line.

Second, and I know I'm in the minortiy on the board...but Sport Exhaust is not worth $2,400 to me. I think it was necessary and worth it on the 996, which sounded like $hit without it. But the difference in sound between Sport Exhaust on or off on a 997 isn't that drastic where I thought it was worth while. I'm just going to spend the $2,400 on track days instead.

Re: "Tubi or Not Tubi, that is the question"

How about the AWE full system (cats, mufflers, headers)? I hear it provides the best 997 gains avail at +39HP.....The cost is nearly $4500 but it is supposedly top-notch from everything I have read. Thoughts?

Re: "Tubi or Not Tubi, that is the question"

I definitely prefer the TUBI exhaust over the PSE. I have heard both in person and I definitely think that the TUBI sound much more throaty. I don't know how to describe it but the car sound even better after a few hundred miles on it, and the exhaust sound EVEN better if you combine it with free flow. Also, 2400 hundred include install is a pretty good deal. Anyway, this is just my thought, you need to hear it in person in order make your decision, and in the end, its your choice. Go with your feeling, but i definitely recommand the TUBI.

P.S. The Tech at Porsche also thinks that my exhaust sound a little louder then PSE and of course, better!

Re: "Tubi or Not Tubi, that is the question"

The reasone the Tubi sounds better after a few miles is because exhaust is originally packaged with an inner lining during manufacturing. After insallation it burns off and the sound becomes deeper and louder. I love it !

As for power gains I don't believe a word of it from any exhaust manufacturer so I simply get an exhaust based on sound alone. It also saves me heaps of money as I don't bother with the headers, racing cats etc....

Re: "Tubi or Not Tubi, that is the question"

    You want SOUND???

    You want POWER???
