I think the real question is how the F@*! do you folks over there get out of your parking places????  With a curb and tree behind, looks like you have to wait for the guy ahead of you to leave?

Sorry if this is a repost but just came across a first drive review of the 991 s with Walter Roehrl.

I am the only one wondering how he will get out

He's got 6 inches in front - he'll get out , eventually, with just a simple 1 -fingered twirling back and forth of  the steering wheel.

But try this in a pre -1990 model year 911, when no 911s had power steering !

Today's younger drivers have no experience of witnessing some drivers with clenched teeth and turning red -faced from straining , just parallel parking , when most sports cars had no power steering for their heavy wide tires .  That was just 20+ ys ago, less for Ferrari.

The driver should have thought of that when he parked there and left himself more room behind the rear wheels; there was obviously more free space at the front of the car when he reversed into the gap. Smiley

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I just read the article about the test ride an Automobile journalist had in the 991 with Walter Roehrl. Very good read, I suggest it!

One thing that stood out to me, when they asked Roehrl to slide the car, he tried a few times and he couldn't slide it. Then he adjusted his driving style, and got a nice smooth slide. He said he was very surprised though, he thought it would've been a lot easier to slide. August Alcheitner said the 991 is focused on performing, and not showing off. He said when you push it to the limit the 991 will show no drama, and will do exactly what you want it to. When you turn it in, the car will stay focused on the apex, and won't understeer, or step out of line into a slide. It will only slide if you really try for it.

Also, all of the optional performance equipment was mentioned. Alcheitner and Roehrl both agreed that these are all just options for owners who will regularly push their cars to the limit, and that the basic no frills 911 Carrera will satisfy the needs of most drivers, no doubt.

Another interesting thing was that Alcheitner and Roehrl both said the 991 felt much lighter to drive than the 997, and the journalist also said it felt lighter from the passenger seat. BTW, the weight difference is between 65-100 lbs depending on specification.

Anyone know when the 991 Carrera GTS will be launched..?

Probably not for a long time, I'd stay you still have plenty of time to enjoy yours. Unless you would consider changing for another model of 991

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Probably at the end of the 991 lifecycle John, just like ours were. Then you will get the 991 with all the extras you need for little more than the basic 991 price at present

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

@ Enma & Gilmour - I know that end of cycle would be most likely, but I can remember RC saying that the 991 GTS could well be launched earlier than the 997 was...

I was just wondering if there was any confirmation as yet?

I am keeping my GTS until end of warranty, after that would love to replace it with a 991 GTS, I hope they build one by then.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I don't think I'd change mine until the 991.2 arrives...warranties can be extended..

Platinum Silver in the wild. Small confession - I switched my order from Carrara White to Platinum Silver with Carrera Red leather on Saturday smiley I looked out my window at my three white cars and decided a 4th was one too many and I needed a change so went over to my dealer and saw a Boxster S in Platinum and was able to put the red leather samples against it. No going back now as I think the order is locked.

    Sexy, classic Porsche color!

It also has debadged rear.. I think Porsche will make a lot of customers practice removing a badge.. all part of falling in love i guess.

Why not GT Silver? To my eyes its more Porsche colour that the Platinum.

Nevertheless, for me any Silver is the colour for Porsche and Mercedes  Smiley

It's simply not worth over twice the cost IMHO reginos. They had a GT silver 997 in the showroom and a platinum silver Boxster and it's very hard to tell the difference under certain lighting conditions.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Sometimes, from a certain angle, the new 911 looks like a Cayman to me, as in ISUK's 2nd pic of the 911 in Platinum Silver (see above).  I guess there's nothing wrong with that but I'm pretty sure I liked it better when a 911 looked like a 911 and not so much like the Cayman.  I'm thinking it's the new headlights and the new lower roof line?

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I'm pretty conflicted between silver & black....to me, nothing looks better than black at night. Even though dirt & swirls are highlighted during the day + its a pain in the ass to keep well polished, I love black cars, always have, and was pretty sure my 991 would be black but after seeing the platinum pics above....hmmm silver is indeed a classic choice

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Shame Iain... I was looking forward to seeing your beauty in white - are you staying with the black wheels?

On Sunday, I saw a platinum Silver Panamera Diesel and liked it very much. Expresso leather may be another nice compliment to platinum silver. Smiley

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I've had a total of 7 white cars in the last 5 years John and just decided an 8th was one too many. The other deciding factor was that white has been very popular on the 997 GTS so I had to consider that there may be a large number of white cars on the used Market when I want to sell my 991. I've switched to the Carrera Classic wheels as I don't think the black wheels work as well against a silver car.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I think Platinum Silver with Carrera Red will look superb .... stunning choice Iain ...

I also think Platinum Silver with Espresso will look wonderful too :)

1318455765353frankfurt 001 debut 028.jpgSplendid choice with Platinum/red.  Slight variation on the classic silver/black.

Silver/expresso is nice as well, like the attached pic of the car in the Exclusive Salon at Frankfurt.  And if you ever need any super Exclusive advice, contact Peter Fraschke in Zuffenhausen.  If you need his contacts, send me a PM.
