The California isn't really that fast. I had a California "encounter" in my Carrera GTS Cab and I was almost a car length ahead of him at 120 kph (I had to brake because of the speed limit). We started from standstill, I wasn't sure what the result would be because I didn't remember the performance data for the California anymore. The Cadillac CTS V SportsWagon is an amazing performer and those looking for a cheap(er) fun car, can't go wrong with it but I doubt that the target customer group of the Cadillac is the same as the one for the Ferrari.

REALZEUS:
Apparently the California driver messed up the start RC, as the car has been measured at 3.9s for the 0-100 km/h dash.
I wonder what he could have messed up...he was driving in auto mode.
Have you looked at the video ? Amazing difference and the CTS V does not 0-100 kph under 4 seconds.
I have to say however that the GTS with PDK and Sport Chrono "jumps" forward instantly, so if the California has a slight delay...
Sport Auto California Supertest: 0-100 kph in 4.2 seconds and 0-200 kph in 14.7 seconds (my car is half a second faster to 200 kph). Just looked it up.
I know, I know....german car magzines and Ferraris...

The performance data on the California according to Quattroruote are the following: 0-100 km/h: 3.9s, 0-200 km/h: 13.4s, 0-1000m: 21.8s / 241.8 km/h.
The driver can easily mess up a start by pressing the acceleraton 0.5s later or having the car in the wrong programme. Having a Ferrari in Auto and not using LC is "criminal" in a drag race as this is the slowest way to launch the car!
I have a California amongst other cars, RC is right, it has many qualities, but it's not fast.
It's a very heavy car actually.
A reckon a 911 GTS is easily in the same league indeed, faster I don't know, but definitely in the same league.
Quattroruote isn't quite the trustable source for performance testing and precise numbers.
I suppose however, since you are a Ferrari fan, you would say the same about Sport Auto.
From my experience in the past, the Sport Auto performance numbers are pretty accurate and if they had the feeling that a manufacturer was cheating, they said so in the review (happened to Porsche too).

I hold QR's testing in a very high esteem, as it's standards and verification precedures are second to none. Automobilismo, frequently betters those numbers. By the way, these magazines are not biased against foreign manufacturers either. The GTR (1st edition - 480 CV) for example was oh, so slightly ahead of the California in acceleration and the 997.2 Turbo S was a tenth of a second faster than the 458 up to 100 km/h (due to the AWD launch) but after that, the superior power to weight ratio of the Ferrari put it well in front.
