Any ring time for the 997 GTS?

What's people's estimates on the arrival/first delivery date/s of the US Turbo Cabriolet???

Greg, I seriously hates quoting you, so much stuff to delete first, seems like your sig is getting bigger :)

I think US and Canada would have around the same launch dates, my dealer estimate the Turbo comes 2013 in year and not model year, figures they launch the Cab a year after so that would makes it 2014.

I haven't changed it, it's been exactly the same for 3+ years but have noticed not as many people using pictures in their sigs as years ago. Didn't even realize it gets re-posted when you quote.    Maybe I should just delete it then?

2014 for the Turbo Cab? Thanks. Guess we have a while to decide. I'm really interested in seeing how they're going to do the side vent. ..I was thinking I will keep my 997 Turbo Cab but now I'm thinking perhaps I should go with the 991 Turbo Cab EVEN if it has start/stop Smiley The C2 looks great so thinking the Turbo will look even better. Curious about the wing & hips... Also depends on a bunch of un-knowns on how it drives.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I agree, Agate Grey and Black are the absolute best two colours for the 991. As of right now, I think I'd go with Agate Grey, but a lot of pictures of this very black car will be coming around tomorrow. Even possibly with a video of a ride!

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Not a fan of Black, but this photo of the 991 looks the best I've seen of the 991.  Black makes the car look smaller and covers up a multitiude of errors in the stryling proportions of the car..............IMHO   ;-)

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

pjd you are absolutely right. i think the pipes on the Carrera looks much better than those on the Carrera S.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

My two cents.  Yes, pjd and mazar, for the first time I like the Carrera exhaust pipes better than those on the S.  They seem to fit the new rear styling better.  Hope the turbo keeps the two pipes as it always (?) has.

Agree. I always thought so, even in the case of the 997.

It looks like the position of the "Porsche" script is unchanged when "911 Carrera" is deleted. I wish they moved it a bit lower in that case, so it would vertically centered in that panel.

    Agreed. Smiley

Unfortunately Porsche thinks such effort is not necessary. Smiley

Have you got already this pics (991 in black)?

The PORSCHE script is positioned to align with the centre of the tail lights and flow between the clear indicator sections of these. It will probably look better in real life (when you are used to the rear of the car) than it appears in photo's.

If you bring it down to the midpoint of the panel it makes the lights appear to be set too high as the script aligns just above the lower edge of them like this..

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Agreed. It looks stupid in the center. I like the way they have it set up.

    And pjd, probably tomorrow.

You make a good point; this is too low. However, the original does not quite align with the white strips of the taillights; it looks a bit higher than them, and the black space underneath looks a bit unbalanced. So I rephrase: a bit lower, but not centered.

Then again, this shot is perpendicular to the panel; it may look differently from a lower, more natural perspective...

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

You can see more clearly from this angle where I believe the PORSCHE script is aligned with the red reflector sections that surround the inset indicators of the tail lights. Please excuse my crude red lines to illustrate this.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Been to IAA yesterday and it was crowded as expected.

First glance at the new 991 and it doesn´t seem that much different than 997 from 3/4 front, but 3/4 back and you clearly see an improvement, this is where the difference is more pronounced. After looking the car for quite some time you realize the lines are more fluid, clean and modern than the 997. Inside it´s not so luxurious as the pics show, you just don´t get the same feeling as seating on a Panamera or Cayenne, it´s much smaller and there are many buttons on central console without any function, which gives a very cheap feeling to it. Compared to my 997 full leather interior , I didn´t felt the 991 to be that much luxurious as I was expecting, what I did like a lot was the driving position. The fact the roof is lowered and the center console higher gives a feel that you are more "in the car" than on the 997, kind o same feeling when you seat in a Ferrari or Lambo, everything inside the car seems closer to you, I love it. The doors inside panels , which look weird front the pics, look great in real life.

Overall impression is good, very good, Porsche did a great Job. Will post some pics later on.

I am of the exactly same opinion after seeing the car in real life at the show. It is still an evolution and not change for the 911.

I really like the new rear spoiler. It's a good evolution, nicely integrated into the body shape.kiss

    J.Seven

The many " blank" console  buttons ( for current options not ordered or future model yr need )  behind the shifter is very

" 1980s " , but to eliminate that would require a " twirl and push  " interface knob like MMI or iDrive, which may not be the better solution .

Looks like designers made conscious effort  not to  draw attn to them by leaving them flat plastic without the small chrome dress up strips as you see on the functional buttons .

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Breaking news guys, the 991 is supposed to last for TWO cycles! 14 whole years of the 991! I'm excited.

    http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Secret-new-cars/Search-Results/Spyshots/Porsche-scoop-special-Porsche-991-future-derivatives/

EDIT: The article says it will retain the styling for two life cycles. This most likely means the car will be on the same platform for two years, as it was with the 996 platform.
