2011 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

After the thrilling race at Spa (even though the end result was yet another pole position plus 1-2 finish for the RBR team), I'm looking forward to the next race in Monza. It's a very fast track and should make for an exciting race.

It is the last race in Europe before F1 resumes the flyaway races. I would expect many teams to stop developing their 2011 cars to focus on next year's cars.

It seems that RBR is well and truly back on top. After Valencia, they had made some less successful development decisions, so they have now reverted to Valencia-spec cars. IMO it is now almost certain that they will win both the Drivers' Title and the Constructors' Title with numerous races to spare.

There will be 2 DRS zones in Monza.

    http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/7138182/Monza-to-have-two-separate-DRS-zones

I hope that the other teams are more competitive next year so that they can qualify on pole position next year. RBR has shut every other team out from qualification in 2011. It has been a pity. In the races, SV in a RBR has been very hard to beat. More often than not, the other teams have needed adverse weather conditions to assist them. That's not close enough IMO.

Anyway, I hope for a close fought race Smiley

My all times favourite track is up next! Roll on Monza! Hopefully the powerful 056 engine and the special low-drag aero package that the Scuderia brings, will shine at the Temple of Speed.

Will depend on temperatures a lot.

In typical hot weather Alonso will win the race, but the World Champion will still be on the podium. If conditions are cooler Vettel will extend his lead further.

Looking forward to Monza, somehow it is always my top 3 favorite race.. Especially with some rain in the mix!

What was exactly going on with Heidfeld and Renault? He did pretty well, scoring 34 points...

Predicting a strong Ferrari this weekend. Not sure why, perhaps their home advantage or just like to see another Ferrari win.

Re: 2011 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

How many times have we heard that Lewis Hamilton is "reflecting on his mistakes" and will "come back stronger"? I have lost count.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/14822664.stm

McLaren's Phil Prew says Lewis is a "very clever guy". Well, clever guys don't keep making the same mistakes over and over again.

Prew then says "We will not ask Lewis to change. Lewis is Lewis"

This is a muddled message from McLaren.

Either LH realises his mistakes and adapts his approach to racing or he remains the same Lewis and will keep on getting into avoidable tangles with other drivers. None of us is stupid enough to believe you can do both.

IMO what we will actually see is more of the same i.e. Lewis will remain an aggressive driver. If a manoeuvre comes off, then it will look spectacular. If it doesn't, then it's hello armco. All this talk about him learning from his mistakes and coming back stronger is hogwash.

The sad reality is that LH's current approach is too haphazard to ensure overall championship success whereas the Drivers' Title demands consistency over a very long race season.

LH nearly won the title in his rookie season simply because he was consistent and almost always finished in the points.

If I were Jenson Button, I would be quietly overjoyed that my team mate has a perfect aim when it comes to shooting himself in the foot.

Lewis might be naturally talented and very quick but he is also way too immature and impulsive to become a multi-times champion. Jenson is a much better package IMO.

JB's weaknesses are (1) he lacks outright speed (2) his driving style doesn't warm up the tyres quickly - which is an essential skill in qualification.

    More on Lewis Hamilton

    http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2011/09/hamilton-reflects-on-two-sides-of-his-life/

He seems to value the fact that being a famous driver means he is able to call P Diddy etc. A sad indictment on today's world and the superficial values that people may have.

He should realise that fame is fickle. Those guys in his phone contacts list won't return his calls if he ceases to be useful to them.

LH benefitted from success in F1 as a stepping stone to network with other famous celebrities. Nothing wrong with that per se except, to keep enjoying those privileges, you can't neglect what made it possible in the first place.

He's enjoying the golden eggs but not feeding the goose that is laying those golden eggs.

Eventually, time runs out when you live off past glories.

Fantastic Race, Schumi was very fast and the fight with LH was exciting and clean... sad he had to let him by...

Well done SV, JB and FA... great race

Re: 2011 Italian F1 Grand Prix at Monza

Great drive from Vettel especially overtaking Alonso round the outside ... brave manoeuvre! A perfect weekend for SV from start to finish.

Wonderful, controlled drive from Button ... he overtook Schumi so much more easily than Hamilton who was subdued this weekend on track and in the post-race interviews. He is clearly psychologically scarred by what happened in Belgium.

Alonso had a great race too ... superb start ... he played fair when Button was overtaking him ...

By contrast, Schumi was up to his usual tricks again .... what he did was only just legal IMO.

I lost count of the number of times he did more than one move in defending against Hamilton. I'm not surprised Ross Brawn confirmed that he warned Schumi twice because Charlie Whiting was telling Brawn that Schumi should leave more room for Hamilton for safety.

Webber was poor today. He put his car in the way of danger when trying an overtaking manoeuvre on Massa that simply wasn't possible.

Poor Massa. More bad luck for him. He was told to provide a slipstream to Alonso in qualification and now his race was spoilt by others.

Solid drives from the younger drivers: Alguersuari, Di Resta, Maldonado, Senna.

IMO the time to leave has come for Barrichello. He was outperformed by his rookie team mate today. When he was being lapped by Button, he was racing on the entry into the pit lane. He should just get out of the way of the leading cars if they are lapping him. (The old rivalry from Brawn GP re-surfaced IMvHO).

And then finally, the bogeyman today ... Liuzzi. Why is this guy still in F1?

He veered towards the right on the start - and on the replays I saw, he was not avoiding anyone - he re-entered the track from having half his car on the grass and then lost the rear ... and then slid along the grass into the midfield at Turn 1 taking out so many other cars. Poor Rosberg, Petrov and D'Ambrosio!

Someone needs to dump Liuzzi out of F1 ... he is always causing accidents ...

It also looked like Buemi was braking too hard and early in the  braking zone when being lapped by other drivers and when Senna was trying to get past him at the end. I'm not surprised that Jean Alesi looked unimpressed as they showed his face just after Buemi's braking.
