To me it sometimes looks a little caricatural, this 991, I'll have to reserve judgement until I see it in real life though... Smiley

Yes, because they've seen the light now they hired rapper Swizz Beatz to consult them about their image. Not to mention their latest 'Freddy Mercury Edition' Evora. Smiley

Criticize Porsche all you want, but Lotus is (sadly) on a whole other level lately.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

No offence, but you can say that with every marque. A lotus will always be lighter and more nimble. It's a great riding machine but in a totally different niche than a 911. It's basicly a toy (and a great one) that could complement every garage, not replace it.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Linking up to the discussion of 991 vs. 997 i.t.o. hp and torque, I did a quick comparison on Wed of the 991 C2S and 997 GTS (most relevant to me, given that I have a GTS on order). Some interesting details emerged: while the GTS has marginally more hp (408 vs. 400), the 991 S has it beaten on torque (440 Nm vs. 420). However, max torque for 991 S arrives later (5,600rpm vs. 4,200 in the GTS). Also, while the GTS has a marginally higher top speed (306 vs. 304 km/h), the 991 S accelerates slightly quicker (4.5 sec to 100 km/h vs. 4.6 for GTS, and 9.4 to 160 vs. 9.7). The GTS has its measure i.t.o. "elasticity" however, with 80-120 km/h in 5th gear taking 5.6 sec in the GTS vs. 5.9 in the 991 S. All comparisons were done on manual vs. manual. (Pls excuse absence of paragraphs - posting this on my iPad, which is not ideal).

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Torque in the higher rev range means an engine that revs more freely and highly!

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

As mentioned before several times, I will be attending press days at Frankfurt.  I plan to post pics, impressions, and do a video feed or two.

I do have an interview set up with a longtime and knowledgeable Porsche Exclusive representative, and will be asking him general questions about new Exclusive items particular to the 991.  If anyone has any questions you want me to ask, post here or send me a PM.

I will also be seeking other interviews, so send along any questions you might have on other subjects.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

What I want to do (but haven't got around to yet) is compare the torque curves of 991S vs GTS - to get a sense of the rpm range across which peak torque is available for both. That, I think, would be a useful comparison.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Thanks for the offer. Please ask if there are any plans to expand the range of exterior colour options available for the 991. I really hope that PAG will add some colours, especially a nice non-metallic blue. Alternatively, it would be useful to know what the future plans are regarding PTS - including whether they'll try to make this more accessible and cut down on the very long lead times. Enjoy the launch!

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

    Wonderbar,

Could you please ask him if Porsche intend to follow the simple rule used successfully by other manufacturers for years of allowing a customer to choose a colour for deviating stitching using one code not the multitude of PITA codes used on previous models?

Also I'd be very interested to know if deviating colour for carpets, headliner, door and seat inserts is going to be available from the start of production?

I'd also be interested to know if there are plans to expand the customisation options on Panamera (deviating stitching in particular) as it's currently restricted to sports car models only.

    Many thanks.

    Carrara:

Since the 991 C2S and 997.2 C2S are the same width, I would expect the 991 C4 and C4S to be wider. IMO we just need clarification as to how much extra width there will be. It may or may not be 44mm again.

The 997 in the above image is a C4S.

And now thinking about it, as pretty as the 991 is, no WAY I'd take one of them over something like this!

De gustibus non est disputandem. So while I absolutely respect your opinion, mine is, Ugh! Gaudy.

Well yellow wouldn't be my first choice in colour, but this shot really shows off the beautiful curves of the 993 RS.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Not much said so far about the start stop technology. Anyone with more details?

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

So far I do find this to be the best combo.

I would just make the inside black + black front lights + black rims.

The aerokit is too much , the duck tail is just perfect 8 at first I was not convinced, but it looks great on these shots )

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I'm torn on the duck tail. It does look kinda cool and adds an element of sportiness to the standard car. The wheels are also rather nice.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I think the ducktail is okay (though I much prefer it not to be there at all), its the front bumper that comes with it that I hate! Its slowly growing on me though.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

If one wants a 991 that looks pure , then it's better without the duck tail and the front spoiler . If you want to add a sporty look, then the duck tail/front spoiler is there to break the smooth lines and give it a harder look.

But , I must also say that I do like the pure lines of any base 911 , as they are timeless and never seem to look bad at any angles. With the sport kits , sometimes the car can look ' too much'' or with design faults.

I find the 997 4S to bee too large for example. Large for no purpose. It is over done to me .

Didn't you have a ducktail like that on your old 996 carlos?
